Ring them again and hope you get a more lenient HSBC person. I only got it on my second application.

I wasn’t asked this personally but say that you are tracking exchange rates and see that AUD has been gradually strengthening (this is actually true). They have gotten much more reluctant to open accounts for non-residents these days.
I CBA to go through with it. I’m happy with the accounts I currently have.

Finally! was this in a recent app update, as I don’t see the option.
You have to add it manually and call a US number to verify it. This wasn’t mentioned anywhere on their website so I guess it’s still in testing.

Almost 4 months and still no sign of the Schwab checkbook, I guess even on slow timeframes something has gone wrong with the request?
Most likely never sent or maybe lost in transit. Just message them and say it never arrived, they’ll send a repalcement.

I was going to suggest Metro Bank for USD cheque deposits but I believe you’re in NI so it’d be difficult for you to get to a branch
Ulster weren’t too bad charges wise, but scanning the check into Schwab was brilliant and free.
Did you call the number to activate it. You need to speak with a real person to activate it for Apple Pay.
Yeah I called them. All activated.
You can use the Schwab international toll-free numbers to speak to Schwab and I did this to set up Apple Pay. See the page below:

HSBC USA recently launched a new version of its mobile application, allowing international clients holding foreign passports to directly open self-directed brokerage accounts. The balance of these accounts can be credited to the Total Relationship Balance (TRB) of their premier accounts.
In addition, HSBC is offering attractive welcome packages: a $1,500 bonus for deposits and investments exceeding $100,000, and a $2,500 bonus for deposits and investments exceeding $250,000.
I believe they are working to expand their services to international clients.
