Opening a Monzo account as an international student living in halls of residence

Hi there. I work with international students and one of my students told me today that they seem to be having problems opening a Monzo account due to them living in a university-owned hall of residence. Is that right? Can international students living in the UK still apply for a Monzo account using their current address? Thanks!

There’s no reason why they couldn’t. Did they say why Monzo rejected them?

It could be they haven’t provided the right documents; also sometimes Monzo can be quite risk averse and decline people who have no credit history in the UK.

Their best bet is to open a high street account (do banks still have presence on campus?), get some student freebies and then eventually apply for Monzo after a few months.

Yes, as long as they are U.K. residents (which they are if they are living in halls) they can apply.
