Like for our holiday to Germany this summer, my mum got an account with Starling so that we could have 0% FX spending, compared to 2.75% with NatWest.
I think there just needs to be more visibility about what Monzo/SB/Chase UK/fd/Revolut are offering in terms of 0% FX. And comparing that to the high fees charged by traditional banks.
(HOWEVER, as an U18 most if not all banks give me 0% FX on my current account so that’s a bonus )
I could apply friction but I’d quite simply get around it by attending the appointments/calls and sorting it out etc.
It’s possible I’d still be using Monzo if I hadn’t lost my white metal card (then someone posting it to me with my licence).
I can’t deal with the coral
Definitely some FOMO going on for myself with the options available.
I try this but I fail. Most if not all my friends have always had the same bank account, possibly adding monzo to keep up with the trend.
This 100%!
I may give Chase a whirl, it does essentially have everything I’d need - sub accounts, notifications, upcoming notifications, no lending (for now) which I think might help.
From account opening 3 years ago I’ve not used it much at all. It even has great merchant data and non caps across the app
Just not sure why I can’t bond with it, maybe due to not trying hard enough - but I don’t feel I should need to force myself.
You’re not alone, I don’t like the Chase app. And I can’t put my finger on why. Feels too cold and clinical perhaps with the all white with blue accents?
But then you get first direct which from a design view is great, but as others mention, the Home Screen account balance vs available balance issue doesn’t work for me.
And then tasks like checking direct debits, editing payees or setting standing orders etc isn’t as direct as it should be.
I’d have to check, but to set a standing order i think it has to be to a new payee, so I had duplicate payees in the list for the same bank.
I tend to use revolut card out and about but not for salary and bills as I think it’s barrier for credit options as turnover isn’t reported anywhere unlike high street banks.
RBS - salary
HSBC - some bills as I was curious of balance after bills - just can’t get on with the notifications format (not important to most but it’s bugs me)
Revolut - out and about spending
I know this is like really off topic, but I wish Revolut offered a 16-17s Account, that doesn’t require an adult account. Because there’s no way my parents are signing up to Revolut just so I can have a Revolut Account.
My issue would be that I would want to upgrade to Plus/Premium to get the priority customer support. And U18s can’t enter into financial contracts annoyingly (as is most likely the case with Monzo 16-17s)
I once sang about wanting rollerblades for an entire car journey across states when I was about 6.
I got those rollerblades that Christmas.
So write a ballad about how Revolut will change your life and don’t stop singing it until you’ve got it. Then get bored and go back to Monzo a few days later.
