maybe resolved for newly printed cards but not old stock?
As @don_quixote states. If it’s an investor card it may be taking longer to use up the supplies?
Yeah maybe It’s not a huge issue as I use Google Pay a lot but still disappointing nonetheless.
Whoah… How does this witchcraft work?!
Also just to throw into the new card train - I got a new Joint card a week or so ago and it’s defintely from the Neon batch. Forgot how bright it was!
It needs a newer iPhone than I have so I gave up my investigations
But from the sounds of it, you can use them by tapping and then having it run a shortcut. I wanted to build one into my bedside wireless charger, but that can be a job for later in the year when the new iPhone appears.

You can use iOS/Android to automate tasks when you scan an NFC tag (the contactless chip in your card), Tasker is one of the ways you can do it on Android. You can also use IFTTT.
For example: the card is on my bedside, I place my phone on top and it activates Do Not Disturb mode and turns off my Philips Hue lights.
Hmm, I can scan the NFC chip when setting an Automation, but it won’t recognise it once the automation has saved.
Edit: Interesting, works as expected with a Halifax card though.
Android or iOS? I’ve read you have to get it just right for iOS so it may depend on the size of the NFC antenna.
As others have guessed, given the relative volumes of investor and joint account cards vs reasonable order batch sizes, they (particularly investor cards) tend to lag behind on old stock for longer than the “standard” cards.
As an example from the past, Nitecrest transitioned from the “old” chip style to the newer one (found on our current cards) in mid-2018, but it wasn’t until shortly after crowdfunding (predictably!) that we exhausted supplies of the investor cards on the old stock.
This will be changing in the near future - our manufacturers are now able to put the joint and investor labels on at personalisation time, not just manufacture time. So once supplies are exhausted, they’ll all be moving onto a common stock.
(When this happens, those cards’ designs will also update to have the newer Mastercard logo without text on the front, and the “world debit” marking on the back side)
Ahh cool. Thank you for taking the time to write all of that, much appreciated
The cards just work as standard NFC tags
Just as a heads up, some cards generate dynamic NFC UIDs each time they’re powered and won’t work as NFC tags.
(The NFC UID is only used for the collision avoidance/multi-card-selection algorithm; its not involved in payment processing at all)

The more you know! Thanks for telling us I’ve been lucky with all mine working.
