My 'Favourite Payees' list doesn't show up in Pay Someone any more - bug?

Hiya, iPhone app user here, up to date. Just went to Pay Someone to transfer money to another account of mine elsewhere, which is saved in my Favourite payees with a custom name. But I can’t get to my Favourites there any more, it just shows me a list of ‘Suggested’ payees, without custom names and including people I’ve not paid in years and don’t want to see.

It seems like my Favourites do still exist, thought maybe they’d been deleted or something. They just don’t show up in Pay Someone so… is that a bug? Have I changed a setting?

EDIT: I’ve been in touch with the in-app support chat. I asked why Favourites has been removed from Pay Someone for me and many others.

In true Monzo customer support style they first repeatedly ignored the question, with both the AI and a human telling me “Please kindly go to Show All Payees.”

No, that’s not what I asked, sorry. So someone else said they’d look into it and escalate to the developers if they couldn’t resolve themselves, please stand by…

… and then half an hour later they advised me that “You can find Favourites in Show All Payees”

Repeated my question about why it’s been removed for many people but not others, and when is it being replaced where it belongs please?

They’ve escalated to the developers “so they can determine if anything can be done at their end”.

I fully expect the developers to suggest that I kindly go to Show All Payees, lol… Maybe they’ll surprise me!

Asked a few more people today, all iPhones like me. Some say they have the Favourites in Pay Someone as expected, others don’t.

I can confirm I still have access to Favourites.

Mine has changed to a list of “suggested” payees.

Mine goes:

  • Favourites
  • Recents
  • All

Yeah identical to me

No issues here. Same list as Carlo.
I don’t see any “suggested payee” section.

Another A/B test?

Just had a look again. When I tap “pay someone” I get a list of suggested payees. When I tap “see all payees” I get the favourites, recents, all list.

I guess it must be if some of us have this problem and others don’t. What would they be testing, though? How long we stare at the stupid ‘Suggested Payees’ list before leaving the screen and trying to find our favourite payees elsewhere?

What is wrong with them? Why make the Pay Someone screen less intuitive and useful?!?

Yeah me too, that’s how I found out my Favourites did still exist. But they need to be in the Pay Someone screen, not buried in ‘All Payees’. Wonder why they’ve changed it?

Monzo, if you’re testing this, PUT THEM BACK.

This caused me all manner of pain yesterday as the ‘Pay Someone’ screen doesn’t display account nicknames.

When I have several accounts with Barclays, then trying to determine that ‘Barclays Bank UK plc’ is actually my Barclaycard that I want to pay…. too much friction.

Yep this was exactly my situation. I’ve got a few accounts with other banks all in my name obviously and that just shows up as my name three times, where in favourites they have more helpful names. The bank icon doesn’t help coz they’re all with the same bank lol

I agree to the return of the Favourites being much needed, but you can still get to them with a few extra taps:

Home → Payments → ‘See all payees’ → Favourites

(on :android:)

You can merge different payees, I have merged mine into a single payee with multiple bank accounts for all my external accounts. It’s simple to do and there’s no confusion. It’s also much tidier.

This is true, and now you mention it, after 5 minutes of utter consternation, I think this is where I ended up.

The annoyance I have is ‘See All Payees’ is such an indestinct option on the screen and, tbh, I forget it’s even there underneath the much more prominent, shouty ‘Pay Someone’ vying for my attention which is what I want to do.

I actually HATE how this is now set up. Maybe it’s muscle memory but even then I just can’t find stuff. Or maybe I’m just getting old.

That’s interesting, thanks for sharing, had no idea. Doesn’t solve the problem but good to know all the same.

It doesn’t address THE problem in this thread but it would certainly solve your problem. You’d have one entry under your name and could label each item as you see fit.
