Monzonaut AMA - Lewis - Business Banking COp 💼

Another week, another insightful look into the world of Monzo :eyes:

This week we’ve got @Lewis01 who is a COp within Business Banking. Lewis isn’t exactly a stranger when it comes to the Community as he’s been on here since 2019.

As always, I’ve asked for a little bio blurb so we can get a bit of context on how Lewis works and how he got here :point_down:

I’ve been at Monzo for around 1 year now and I started as a frontline COp, I then progressed into holding the Business Banking badge which is a much smaller team who deals primarily with our business account customers, I’ve held this badge since August 2021.

Before joining Monzo, I worked at B&M as a customer service supervisor and also a receptionist at a local swimming pool.

What’s the greatest similarity to your previous roles, and, on the flip side, the biggest difference?

Did the swimming pool have a decent vending machine? Happy childhood memories of exciting flavours of Seabrook’s crisps

You say primarily business accounts, what else do you do? I guess it’s also consumer when things are really busy there?

Excellent questions as always!

Since I joined Monzo I always had my eye on the Business Banking badge as I had previously ran a very small business selling fancy car air fresheners! So the week that I passed probation I applied for the badge and then I was accepted and was in training within a couple of weeks. Since then, our entire squad has become a Business Banking squad so I’m still with my original team which makes things even better :raised_hands:

Now for the weird one… luckily this is a relatively easy one for me to answer because I can not stand the taste of mayo so I guess tomato sauce through a straw is the one I’d be choosing :tomato:

My favourite part of working within the Business Banking team has got to be the people! In a way we feel like 1 growing family who are always there to support each other.

The opportunities we get within the badge is also a benefit, such as dedicated engineers and experts who are always there if we need any improvements made to improve the experience for our business customers :rocket:

If I could pick 1 thing to eat for the rest of my life it would have to be toad in the hole covered in gravy :yum: why? Because it’s my all time favourite tea and not much more can be said :joy:

I’d I had to move to another part of the business I’d probably pick from either being a Squad Captain or moving to the QA/QC side of Monzo!:man_detective:

I’d definitely rather fight 1 horse sized duck, I think I’d get overwhelmed if I was surrounded by 100 duck sizes horses :rofl:

  1. Pretty much the same as @KieranTadhg’s answer above! The people are what make Monzo, Monzo! So people are my favourite thing about working here as a whole :pray:

  2. I’ve got to say, I think international payments on our business accounts are going to be a really big game changer for Business Banking so hopefully this will be a feature that is completely rolled out very soon :crossed_fingers:

  3. This is a really difficult one for me, I literally don’t watch any films or read any books… erm I guess i’d have to go with Narnia as it’s the first one that pops into my head :joy:

  1. The biggest tip i’d give is for you to just be yourself!

  2. Make sure to ask for help whenever you need it… Business Banking does have quite a few differences to Frontline.

  3. If you think anything could be better, remember to feedback through the appropriate channels :pray:

We have shifts anywhere from 6am-10pm, however we are able to put preferences forward for our hours/days.

I always choose to select my hours as 10-7 so I can have a lie in every day… I’ve only ever done 1 6am start and it required a lot of alarms! :sleeping:

Erm, I’ve never actually seen sesame street so it wouldn’t be fair to choose just 1! I’m currently in a Google Meet with another Business Banking COp who has said to say I wouldn’t fight any of them :man_facepalming:

My biggest challenge since starting Business Banking would be getting my head around the different people in a business! but I think I’ve now figured everything out so I understand about PSC’s more than ever! :slight_smile:
