I would have been if it worked with JA’s :frowning:

Hiii! Thanks for your questions :sunglasses:

Let’s get cracking then, shall we?

Are you a YouTuber?

I think I want to answer this question by first acknowledging how the community must feel about joint account features in general. I worry sometimes that it looks a little like folks’ very fair and reasonable requests to bring Plus/Premium parity to joint accounts is falling on deaf ears. We often say something like “we’ve been thinking about this!” Or “thanks for the suggestion!” and then you hear nothing more about it.

And then someone asks again, and the same things happen. But I think it’s really important to note that a lot of folks at Monzo really, really, really care about this problem and we do think about it a lot. The honest truth is that we just haven’t got round to it yet. We know there’s hundreds of things we could do to make joint accounts better (including making them compatible with Plus/Premium features!), but we’ve been busy working on Trends, Flex, the improvements we’ve brought to Flex and virtual cards on Pots and some other things too :eyes:

I can’t say when we’ll properly tackle this problem – because I don’t know! But please do know it’s on our minds!

Definitely fart/laugh. Farts are funny so will boost the laughter!

On your serious question – I love launching stuff! Taking things that the team’s been working on for a while and bringing them into the world is really cool. And lately, we’ve been doing that in the community forum first, then on our “channels” later (Trends & Pay on card from a Pot in particular – these haven’t even been shared on our blog or social channels yet!), and I’ve really enjoyed it. Last week’s “:eyes::eyes::eyes:” thread was a highlight.

No pictures of you being lovesick or jumping in the pool will appear

(Today I mean, I’m not promising about the future)

I mean, we’re no strangers to it, right Tim? You know the rules, and so do I.

When it comes to the community, a full commitments what I’m thinking of – you wouldn’t get this from any other guy.

Hi!

What would you say the coolest part of your job is

Coming up with fun new things with product teams and then telling you all about them!

How have you found working from home?

I personally really love being in the office, but working from home wasn’t bad either. We were lucky, in a sense, because pre-pandemic Monzo was already very well set up for remote working. From a technical point of view, I don’t think we actually needed to change or optimise anything, so it felt smooth from that point of view!

But, I really missed being with my colleagues in a shared physical space. I like to bounce ideas off’ve people and have fun, but you can’t do that as well behind a screen :frowning:

What do you think Monzo will look like in 5 years’ time?

Oooooh, this is a big, bold question. So a caveat – this is my personal opinion and not Monzo product strategy  but…

The “bank” part is obviously an incredibly important part of our mission. And we’ve been pretty relentlessly focused on being the best current account for a good while now. I think it shows and I do think we’ve become more “banky”. But in 5 years time, I think “bankyness” won’t be the focus, but rather the foundation. The focus will be more on “money” specifically, and we’ll have a bunch of things that make money work for everyone, rather than our more limited (but growing!) offering now.

Flex is a good step in that direction, I think! We’ll have more things that hang off’ve your core Monzo current account like this. And not every one of those things will be for everyone, but we’ll have lots more tools that make money simpler to see and easier to control.

This is a really good question!

So I actually have a Slack channel called #jacks-favourite-nps-comments – which I used to collect TrustPilot reviews/tweets/comments from our internal customer satisfaction surveys. I like to collect these because (a) it gives me inspiration when I’m writing marketing plans, (b) keeps me honest – it means I check our customer’s comments all the time and (c) actually just feels really nice too, because so many people really love Monzo and what it’s done for their financial lives. It’s a nice reminder that we’re doing good work. And sometimes people say really funny things when they review Monzo too.

So if I were to work somewhere else, I’d want to do the same kinda thing, I think.

Have you ever had to market something that you didn’t like or didn’t see why anyone would ever want?

There’s plenty more where this came from! :smirk:

5 years is a long way away! So I don’t know – but I really do love my job now. I get to work with super smart product and engineering people and design cool marketing plans for products that literally millions of people use! That’s super fun so I want to keep doing this. But know more about it and do it at a greater scale, I think.

The ability to pay for something in 3, 6 or 12 with just a tap

Okay no seriously… The ability to add a virtual card to a Pot and then add that to Apple Pay or Google Pay!

Okay no, real talk now – the ability to add different accounts and credit cards to an aggregated monthly view of all your spending and saving :sunglasses: Maybe with some graphs and charts too :eyes: We could call it “Trends”…

I’ll stop trolling and give a real answer – I’d love for us to do some kinda rewards thing in the future. But done properly, so you see it all in your app and it’s easy to use and understand. I’ve literally never used a rewards product because they’re all too confusing/have too many hoops to jump through. I think we could do a really good job at building something simple, valuable and beautiful.
