Was hoping for a new card, not a new app sound.

I wonder what percentage of people have their phones on silent most of the time? I do and I didn’t even know there were sounds in the Monzo app for months!

Mine’s always on silent, unless I’m expecting an important phone call, e.g. from the doctor, etc. I couldn’t tell you which apps have sounds, if any.

My phone is on silent. I wouldn’t notice any of this.

I do have mine dead silent for over a decade. I am not even used to my alarm tones as they seem to be different each time.

I hear these. My partner refuses to silence his phone at night so the 1am money paid sound wakes me up :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi! I’ve noticed that the notification sound for money coming into my account has suddenly changed from the lovely old cash-register ā€œka-chingā€ sound to the new, rather dull sound.

I haven’t changed any of my notification settings, and I much preferred the old sound. I’ve also seen that other Monzo customers have noticed the same change today.

Could you please pass on my feedback that I’d really like the old ka-ching sound back — or, even better, give us a choice of notification sounds?

It was a tiny thing, but hearing that satisfying ka-ching when money arrived was one of the things I really liked about Monzo! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@AlanDoe

I doubt if they’ll change it back. It’s meant to be audible branding which they’ve worked on in earnest.

Well, sounds for the Monzo app are now disabled on my iPhone thanks to whatever this godawful replacement is.

I don’t need a banking app to have something that sounds like the Netflix startup tune, a simple ding or the cash register sound sufficed.

Result.

If your device can replace the sounds imposed by an app, you can set it to play the old sounds instead of the new. The old sound files can be played/downloaded here:

Rather ironic they call it ā€œGood vibrationsā€ just for us to mute them all. :muted_speaker:

Now we just need the new sounds, to be available for download

I think they’re pretty nice, it’ll only play when my phone is unlocked and I’m not wearing my watch though. Which is nice, into get monzo notifications when my phone is locked and in my pocket, unless I’m expecting something, in which case my phone will send the notification to my watch, which then doesn’t play the sound on the phone

Just did a test transfer and I’m still getting the ker-ching. Not bothered as I quite like it as there’s no other sound like it from my other banks. No doubt it’ll change.

Are you Android?

I am - and still have the old sounds.

I’m suspecting the iOS app has been updated with the last release, but Android hasn’t (yet)

Their article says this:

But we also wanted to evolve this into the world of sound. And with the launch of Get busy living, it seemed like the perfect time to delve into what we sound like, alongside what we look like. A different way into representing money working harder, so customers can spend less time stressing and more time living.

The entire sonic identity which we call ā€˜Good vibrations’ - includes the new sonic logo - which is engineered from the name ā€œMonzoā€ and designed around how money should feel. Our new sound will be heard everywhere - from our latest ads straight into the app. We’ve added custom audio for every send, receive, progress update, and milestone that you reach.

What is ā€œcustom audioā€? This implies it can be changed back?

The ā€œGet busy livingā€ slogan, and associated adverts I’ve seen, appears to be aimed towards edgy youngsters rather than professionals. I’m wondering if this is why they changed the sound?

It’s almost like they are trying to rebrand without changing the logo as such. Shiny new cards, new tones, new adverts aimed towards a certain demographic.

I’m sure they know what they’re doing, but…
