Far from actually being that helpful but I found it interesting

I don’t miss pulse at all, I don’t remember ever using it.
However we do see some confusion via chat sometimes because an amount has been refunded but the lack of a running balance means they haven’t seen it been applied.
I know it’s something we were bringing back, but I think there are bigger priorities at the moment (but don’t worry, I’ll keep nagging!)
Yup - it’s definitely handy!
To be fair, I probably only do that twice a year so it isn’t that important, it’s just a nice to have.
Ok I’m gonna say it. Controversial but I think the newer UI looks generic and a bit sad. It looks like it could be any app - white isn’t clean it’s boring.
When we had the pulse graph (like it or not) it was unique. Monzo felt like a specific app built for a specific thing. Now it’s missing that, and I’d love to see just a pop more colour or something more novel to make it interesting again.
Main thin I’d like the option is to hide pots from the scrolling home screen, but not from the all accounts view. Scheduled pot transactions also really need the edit options you have for standing orders.
The Android slide out menu is now considered old in terms of the design guide.
Gesture based navigation makes slide out menus defunct. Google have made these obsolete in the majority of their apps in favour of tabs or hamburger menus.
Google Maps for example;
I see this when you look up navigation in the android guidelines, maybe you should do some reading yourself!
Both navigations exist in the guidelines, actually. The bottom navbar for android is a relatively new addition to material UI, and is likely intended for newer all-screen devices that replace the old System bar with a gesture bar, similar to iPhones without a home button.
Let’s leave that conversation there. It’s not related to the redesign so if anyone wants to continue this discussion, perhaps it could be done in a new thread.
Realllllly want to leave it there but they literally have a picture of it being used above the standard Android back button etc as the next image! https://material.io/components/bottom-navigation#behavior
Anyway back on topic. I don’t think I agree with @projectfortytwo that white is boring, but I do actually agree a little bit more personality wouldn’t go amiss. However, I’m hoping this will show more when connected cards become the norm and your UI is more personal to you by having multiple accounts. I don’t tend to back out of the app accidentally anymore but I definitely did a bit at the beginning. I also personally think the hierarchy is fine but agree would like pot & credit card transactions when they arrive to be the default view.
Little bit worried that connected cards will be plus only in the future based on @Rika comments but correct me if i’m wrong but I don’t think they’re involved too much in that aspect so might just be an off hand comment. However I guess along with custom categories probably is something I’d pay a little bit for!
Nor do I! I think you’re attributing someone else’s comment to me.
I had to Google the old design because it feels like it changed a lifetime ago!

I don’t dislike the new design, it’s clean and tidy enough, and visually I think I probably like it, but I’m not sure it’s better than the old layout.
The pulse graph on the old design had its uses, and the five options at the bottom of the screen got you quickly to wherever you need to be. Some of that simplicity has been lost (e.g. reveal the monzo card to find hidden options like your bank statements; click on a picture of my face to find options about taking out a new loan)
Even so, on a day to day basis, I find that most features I use are pretty obvious (previews of incoming/outgoing payments, left to spend, bill splits, etc) so I’m fairly happy with it
I did say I was speaking personally.
I have zero involvement in Monzo Plus, lending, or quite a lot of things in Monzo nowadays. My area is Mastercard card payments and transaction disputes.
I’m happy with the design. Couple of things which don’t seem to be intuitive is having View All behind my profile photo. I’d like a better way of accessing View All (after the swipe down) or perhaps a different take on it completely. Settings could be more accessible too.
The other issue is the Payments tab. This needs a major redo which we’ve discussed at length on other threads. Currently it doesn’t fit with the Home tab at all and there’s not much distinction as to where you’re paying from e.g. joint or personal.
Overall, I much prefer the new design, and whatever the visual merits of the old design (I liked it, including Pulse!), functionally it didn’t work well once you added multiple pots and accounts and additional cards, etc. Put business and US accounts on top of that, and we got the new design not a moment too soon imo.
However, there is one big piece of functionality that we lost when the Pulse went away that is still missing: quickly jumping back to previous months and years. I recently needed to look up a transaction from a couple of years ago, and it was a painful experience scrolling down the transaction list. With the Pulse, it was easy to skip through months and quickly get to the vicinity of an older transaction, and then scroll the list to find it. A year ago, Jordan said this was something that would be worked on, but I’ve not seen anything since:
Hopefully there are still plans to tackle this issue. As more people use Monzo for longer, it will become more important. I have transactions going back four years now, and I don’t frequently need to access ones from far in the past, but when I do it’s teeeediooouuuussss.
Serious question (because I’ve not needed to do so myself, so don’t know), but can the search tools not provide this function for you?
Good point, I just used the search to find my first ever transaction. No need to scroll through the transaction list.
Mostly, yes, it does, but you wouldn’t be able to see your running balance or any other transactions made at the same time (which might be handy if you were wondering what you spent on a night out, whether you’d sent or received money from friends/customers for the expense, etc, etc)
I tend to use the statements for this kind of thing.
You can search by date for things at the same time, albeit it has to be in the form “date writtenMonth year” rather than xx/xx/xx (17 June 2019 not 17/6/2019). ETA: at least on Android.
Search in my eyes is something that needs some love
I have no faith in it whatsoever
