Monzo Plus – you asked us to make it simpler, so we’ve created bundles

If you think that the £3 deal is currently offering you value, then fair enough. If not, and if you signed up in the reasonable expectation of additional benefits that you could add on, then why not see drop Monzo a line in app?

I think I’ll be writing to Monzo to make a complaint now, I genuinely feel like I’ve been mis-sold this product.

I took out the early bird offer with the intention of adding phone insurance when it was released and even if that was released today I still wouldn’t be able to just add it to my current £3 a month deal, I’d have to go through one of these bundles.

As a loyal customer and investor who understands the need to develop these products as you go, I can honestly say I’ve never seen Monzo handle something so badly as this over the last few months.

I am currently a Monzo Plus customer on the early bird deal. With the interest I was happy with it and would have considered paying the £6 after the 12 months was up.

I don’t think I will pay £4.95 a month just for the card colour / what is being offered at the moment. I would potentially think about the traveller but not sure whether it would be of value.

I have no interest in metal cards :see_no_evil:

Anyway - thanks for the update. I do appreciate it’s a difficult one to make everyone happy and you do need to be profitable at the end of the day.

Tha’ll be a £1.95 add on

my thoughts:
the Traveller: good if you do travel abroad regularly
the home: I would go with this if I was currently looking to renew my home insurance. Though at £12 a month that seems a little bit steep to me
the supporter: why £4.95? not £5, that and I dont think you will be getting anything good for that price anyway.
to sum up:
I think it been a case of one step forward and two steps back

So my understanding of the paragraph

If you’d like to switch to a new bundle, you can do so at no extra cost. You won’t be out of pocket – you’ll get access to new features, at the same or a discounted price as new customers.

is that I will be offered to switch to one of the new bundles and continue paying £3 a month. If this is the case, fantastic. I did the early bird in the hope that would happen when phone insurance came about. If not, I too will be making a complaint.

Monzo Plus has been very poorly managed in my opinion and it seems I am not alone in this feeling. I have been with Monzo since 2016 when it was Mondo and am an investor so am no stranger to how they roll things out - and this is by far the worst way they have ever introduced anything.

And don’t get me started on the removal of interest!

I think this is possible due to the last sentence “at the same or a discounted price” but I think what they really mean is that you will be able to transfer and that will cancel your current subscription with no obligation to pay the remainder.

Lmao “we’re removing the only thing that actually made plus slightly worthwhile” facepalm Monzo

Hmmm we shall see - I’m waiting for my “personalised offer”

I read this as cancel your £3 a month deal and we will send you a personalised discounted offer to switch to one of the new bundles. If you’re currently paying £6 a month you’ll just get it for the standard price.

There is nothing in the new bundles that would make me become a Monzo Plus member, sorry :broken_heart:

“Personalised offer” of which there are only 3 options…

Seems odd that the blog post went out so long before the emails. Or has anyone else got one?

@jonas worte below post here less than 4 months ago as a Plus roadmap for 2019. I know nothing was promised but that’s what I expected to happen. Now that Monzo have changed the whole thing wonder why they have not bothered to explain and why should people stay in 12 month contract when they might have read the post below before signing up.

I have already raised this as a complaint in app.

Hi all, it’s me again! As promised in the other thread about Monzo Plus , I wanted to give you a quick update before the weekend. Thanks again for all the feedback last week. It’s really accelerated internal discussions and plans and I’m super excited to share what’s coming next.

As I mentioned last week , we’re happy with how early we’ve released Monzo Plus, because we’ve got a ton of actionable feedback already. But we failed to lay out the long term vision of a customisable and convenient bundled bank account with well-curated benefits and competitive pricing.

After much discussion, we agreed to share our internal 2019 roadmap for Monzo Plus with you to illustrate where we’re going with this. We are going to do our very best to deliver this roadmap. In sharing this, we’re trusting that you, our community and in many cases shareholders, understand that some things may still slip or change. I’ve shared details where we have them. Where there aren’t any details, it means the decision hasn’t been made yet. Which on the one hand is good, because you can still input. But on the other hand it’s bad because we can’t answer your more specific questions. Without further ado, here’s what we’re planning to add in 2019:

  • Deposit interest
We’ll pay interest on positive account balances for all Monzo Plus account holders. We’re still internally debating whether we should go for a high interest rate with a low cap on balance (e.g. similar to Nationwide FlexPlus with 3% up to £2500), or a low interest rate with a high cap on balance (e.g. 0.6% up to the full FSCS limit). This is definitely coming, but it may take a while to model it out and might require some experimentation.
  • Contents insurance
This is a first for a bundled bank account. It’ll be priced very competitively from £5/month, and should be ready to launch in the next couple of months.
  • Mobile phone insurance
Cover for whatever happens to your phone (loss, damage, theft, accidental damage, a drop in the swimming pool etc). Only £6 a month to insure an iPhone X/Pixel 3 - half the price of buying the same insurance online. UK based repairs, and same day replacements.
  • Access to special offers and discounts
Starting with a 10% discount at PureGym and a free Jack’s Flight Club membership for 6 months, but will expand and change over time
  • Cashback and rewards
We’ll have some form of cashback and merchant rewards for all Monzo Plus customers - we’re just working through the exact shape it’ll take. Depending on how our Monzo Points trial goes, this might piggy-back on Monzo Points. You could, for example, imagine a points/cashback multiplier for Monzo Plus customers.
  • Virtual debit cards
You’ll be able to create virtual debit cards to use for online transactions, for added security
  • Premium card material
We’re definitely looking at Metal cards, as well as other more unique materials. I’m super excited about this. I used to hate the idea of metal cards, but then I held one of the sample cards and it just feels really nice .
  • Even better travel insurance
Available to a larger age group and we’re working hard to get even better levels of cover.
  • Airport lounges
You’ll get access to a network of 1000+ airport lounges. It’ll be really easy - just walk up with your Monzo card to enter. Depending on your Monzo Plus package, you’ll need to pay a per-visit fee.

Once we’ve added all these things, we’ll have a look at the overall pricing strategy to see whether it is working. If it isn’t, we will need to change it - most likely by increasing the price of customisations and reducing the base fee.

Because a few of you were asking, here are some fun stats about the rollout. So far we’re really happy with how it’s going. The waitlist now has 11,000 non-staff members. We’ve enabled Monzo Plus signup for 541 of them and of those 137 already signed up! We’re confident that things are working as expected and are ready to sign up 1,000 more customers next week. We haven’t yet decided how long we’d run the early bird discount (£3 instead of £6/month and extra swag and event invites), but we’ll do it for at least another week. We’ll also be announcing the first early bird events next week.

Personally, I think build your own options would have been the best option, where you can add as and when, obviously with the minimum term being applied. I know a lot of work has gone into this, but currently does not float my board. Will stick with my Curve Metal.

I’m not sure on the new bundle, I would have liked to pick and choose what I wanted… However, I do also see how it can be simpler for some people…

Interest on balances is one the main features I liked about Plus. It made it worthwhile for me.

You NEED to bring interest back in my opinion. :man_shrugging:

Also when in September is Lounge Access coming  I go away then so could really use it haha

So you have removed interest, and made it more complicated and expensive (for many).

Honestly you should just ditch it and start over. This just reeks of desperation to make some profit (which is a worrying thing).

Starting to think Monzo needs some new leadership to be honest. So many things have gone downhill over the last few months.
