Removal of the words mastercard is the new look for mastercard nothing to do with Monzo.
You will see all mastercards like this as cards are renewed.
I’m tempted to buy in to this at the early pricing because I’m sure Monzo will make it worthwhile but as stated in its current form it’s not massively appealing to me.
People who have purchased the base subscription without the travel insurance and money what’s your reason?
Hmm they want a flashy card
Yeah I don’t get it either. Paying your bank £36 a year for nothing more than a few gimmicks seems silly. Paying additional sums for something legacy banks do as standard for their plus accounts seems odd too.
I get the whole pay for what you use, but this seems pretty pricey. Probably one of the most (if not the most) expensive ones out there if you choose all the options.
For me personally I don’t feel like there is anything here worth paying for yet. But who knows maybe in the future
I acknowledge that in multiple posts Monzo have advised people not to sign up now purely for what may be added in future. However, with the “early bird” discount and vague expiration of that pricing, along with the roadmap containing features that may be added with no set timescales, it seems clear that many people signing up now aren’t doing so for what’s currently on offer.
I’m not sure what Monzo can do, or even if they want to do anything about it, but I think they have a duty of care and should be doing more to ensure people are making the right decision. It’s not a one-off cost, it’s an ongoing subscription with a minimum term. They don’t want this to be another PPI-style mis-selling!
I had the offer yesterday but haven’t accepted yet.
I’m minded to go with it at £3/month, though. This would be on trust that Monzo will be developing a good product that is worth £6/month, meaning that it would be good sense to get in early and at a discount.
Conversely, £36 is within my risk appetite and while I wouldn’t be happy to lose it, I could. So I’d essentially be taking a small bet that new stuff over the year would be worth it for me.
Still not made up my mind, though.
Payment options that are not just monthly if Monzo want to make money work then a DD option weekly or 4 weekly same annual price just collected different
Perfect timing @Peter_G! This is exactly what I thought. Not judging at all, if I used Monzo as my main account I’d be wondering if I should take a gamble on it too. That’s why I think Monzo should do more to make sure people are handing their money over for the right reasons. Loyal customers like yourself shouldn’t have to “take a bet” on this
Good to hear the list of signups is being worked through.
From memory I had put my name down within 12 minutes of the announcement going up on FB so hoping to get to try it soon.
Yes I’m willing to take a punt and I know others think that idea silly but I do have faith that Monzo will make it worthwhile in time.
What do you suggest?
This is how I’m looking at it too. The plans are clearly there, so I’m happy to give it a go and support their development.
I’m in the same boat and after reading what you said I’ve just gone for it. Midnight blue card on the way!
It’s not really worth it at the moment but as you mention I’m willing to take a risk at the discounted rate.
If you disable Face ID for authentication you can then disable the renewal with your PIN and enable Face ID again
So I signed up, joined and paid my first months fee, sent a message to Customer Service requesting my bespoke Monzo.Me and I got a response of “…I’m only able to change your Monzo.Me name if you’ve signed up for Monzo Plus …”
I know we’ll resolve it but the first response was a little odd
Sorry about that! One of the things on our list is to make it more obvious in our internal tooling that someone has Plus
May I suggest some kind of shiny klaxon alarm? Don’t worry I know it will be easy to resolve
As an investor I really like the look of the new cards, but i’d be disappointed if you didn’t offer the option for it to display Investor on the Monzo Plus cards.
I’d really like you to offer a combined mobile phone/international travel insurance (that covers skiing)
Roadside assistance would also be useful.
Also it would be great if you’d consider removing the embossed numbers/writing and perhaps moving them to the back of the card or making them app only. Cards without text last longer and fit better in the wallet.
Or, I guess, wait for six months and see if the package improves. Even if the price doubles before then, you’ll still pay the same.
This is my current thinking.
When I first heard about Monzo Plus I thought no way, not worth it however upon hearing the roadmap it might make sense to get in at the early bird price
I currently pay £8 p/m for phone insurance alone
If Monzo can offer phone insurance for £6 (plus £3 p/m) then it’s a win win for me…
Still undecided
Appreciate Monzo are saying don’t go for Monzo Plus based on the assumption it might be different… buts it’s tempting
This maybe a long winded post but here goes nothing.
The testing of things in a live app is my biggest bugbear with Monzo at the moment. Things shouldn’t be tested in a live application, that should be left for TestFlight or the Google equivalent.
It should be the case that if something changes on the testing version of the app that breaks or changes something fundamental then the “Chat With Us” should go straight into the new product team who’s specifically there for these type of scenarios and who should know what’s going on. People who sign up to the beta apps are aware that things might not work correctly.
Fundamentally people want stability with their banking application and I really do believe that more people are not switching to Monzo at the moment because of this live testing attitude that the team have.
I have personally had the experience where I installed a TestFlight version of the application to demo a new feature, only for that feature to break. I then requested I be removed from that feature only to be told that the team haven’t built the rollback functionality of this feature yet. Tells you a lot doesn’t it that maybe instead of rushing things out maybe a bit more care should be taken to plan these things through first.
Those are just my thoughts anyways.
