Monzo Plus - what would you like to see?

Yes - we won’t automatically order you a new card when you sign up to Monzo Plus. You’ll get a feed item to confirm it.

@ataulm is working on the design selector so soon when you order a replacement card, you’ll be able to choose between designs :+1:

Anything on the travel insurance? Everything else can be passed of as just bad value (read, free everywhere else). But it seems travel insurance is limited to 18-46 year olds? Or is Zurich just missing at the moment and will offer this?

But that is the problem. Your base fee plus ONE add on is already totally uncompetitive!

It feels like zero research into what others provide was done, and that figures were plucked out of the air. You want to charge a £6 base and a £4 add on, £10 in total, for very average travel insurance, which could be had for half the price annually.

By the time I choose another add on you have priced yourself out of the market entirely compared with the competition. Surely you can see that? The maths does not work.

Individual addons can be in a higher price bracket if done right. I think its perfectly acceptable, and Monzo could make slightly more money on this because of the pick and mix method they are attempting to try. But you’re correct, there’s a thin line between the costs and if you make individual options too expensive you go over that line and it puts everyone off.

Not sure if you read the post but it seems pricing will come down over the year and with scale as more providers and options are added.

They seem to be quite confident in their ability to compete competitively on cost.

Theres more to be announced included in the Base price though, isnt there?

Just for the sake of comparison I just did a little Google… Take for example NW FlexDirect…

Mainly Includes
Mobile Insurance
Travel Insurance
Breakdown Cover

£13 per month // £156 per year

To Buy Individually

Travel Insurance = £35.00 /year (Multi Trip, £20mill Medial, £3k Cancellation, £3k Luggage)
Mobile Insurance = £143.88 /year (£11.99 /month) (iPhone XS full cover)
Breakdown Cover = £36.99 /year (National, Cover Person not Car, Includes wrong fuels…)

Total = £214.99

If Monzo can get me somewhere close to £13 a month for what’s on offer I’m in…

Then that should be calculated into the current price imo. right now your paying £3 for what you can get for free elsewhere. Keep that in mind. Your not paying for future things which you don’t know of, your paying now for a coloured card. You can see my post a few posts ago, most of the current offering is free elsewhere or not competitive at the current pricing of £3 never mind £6.

Thanks for this @jonas but I am a little more concerned about the future of Marketplace which Monzo told us will be coming in ‘near future’.
This Plus is going to cover most of the things which could have been offered in Marketplace and we (users) could have a real choice.

Can you please confirm if you plan to have Marketplace and what would be the purpose of that after plus launch?

Brilliant response @jonas, I appreciate this and it has changed my view on Monzo Plus from a negative to a positive

Seeing the 2019 plan with affirm my decision in becoming a plustomer as you call it

We will know next week! And it was only considered after listening to the community. Thats what i gathered.

But I’m not paying anything now. I’ll only pay if I sign up.

So until then, and as they add to this and tweak that (which is what Monzo do) I’ll watch and when it’s right for me, I’ll sign up.

I really don’t understand the ire and angst going on.

Monzo are launching a new thing, they could’ve done it better, they are scrambling to get the comms out to cover that. It’s Day Zero, lets see where it sits in Day Thirty?

…That’s why. You’d rather we say nothing at their pretty crappy initial offering?

I understand why, and everyone is perfectly able to voicing their opinions as you have so ably demonstrated.

But your view is that it’s a pretty crappy initial offering, my view is that it isn’t great at all (so I won’t bother) but it’s a start for a new bank trying to do things differently. They WILL get things wrong, I think this is one of them but thank heck they are trying!

Anyway.

I’m out of this discussion now. It’s spinning in circles and is now just noise. I’m really hoping Monzo Plus becomes half of what we all hope, if so it’ll be AMAZING.

Me too, I don’t think anything more needs to be said now without it getting too repetitive and boring.

I’ll see you all next week when this rolls out and hopefully a plan has been announced :sunglasses:

PEACE OUT! :raised_hands:

I think something insurance based needs to be added.
Example:

  • N26 offer Airport lounges and a metal card & some other types of insurance for £14.59 a month or something

Something similar to this maybe?

I hope Monzo+ works out for them, early days yet, been watching these discussions carefully and considering joining up on the waiting list…

The Midnight Sky card won me over ( I know I’m bonkers) but it looks awesome

Thanks for the breakdown Jonas, very eloquently put.

Whilst I don’t think I’ll be an early-bird I’ll definetly keep an eye out for how it develops.

Should have done £6 a year for cards, links and events and called that Monzo Plus then £4 a month for insurance etc thorough Monzo Market where you don’t need to be a Plus member
