Monzo Plus Roadmap for 2019 📅

I think it would be more of a convenience, i.e. you could create and assign a virtual card for Amazon or Netflix
Then if you’re physical card is stolen/damaged and needs replacing, you no longer need to remember to update Amazon/Netflix

Or that’s my understanding of the point of virtual cards

Monzo - the bank where you have to pay for extra security. This really should be a standard feature of a modern bank.

Not sure how Monzo Plus would work for joint accounts.

You’d need double the cards, possibly 2 URLs and quotes for everything would only be for 1 person so cost for those would need to increase too.

If they haven’t got any of this firmed up for current accounts I can’t see them being available for joint accounts any time soon.

So we will be second class then as like a lot on other threads we only use Monzo as Jount acc

I don’t know what the stats are for people who only use their joint accounts and not their current ones. (I use both to be clear).

I’m sure they’ll have looked at the data and crunched the numbers but it would be good for them to confirm :soon:

I suppose the question is whether its a one time use(disposable card) or multiple use. Virtual cards only prevent .

But then the anitvirus software on your computer or phone show pick it up
The argument that it will increase security is only relevant when you don’t have your own “Cyber ring of Steel”. Plus it’ll only be so long before people start predicting card numbers and CVV

i agree, id like them to confirm

as i posted on another thread

iv had an account for over a year and then opened a joint account with my wife three months ago.
we are loving Monzo

(wages paid in - all bills paid out of this account)

we love stuff like

instant notifications
seeing payments the day before
savings pots
 ect

so much better than our old bank.

but i do feel that the Joint offering seems to be second class
No -
ifttt / Monzo.me just to name two

im using the new look on test which i love but the
Monzo Plus test is yet another offering not available to Joint accounts

we are the same as others on this thread, we only use our joint acc
so why are we being treated like second class

What would happen if you signed up with a one time use card for a subscription and then cancelled it early. How is it connected to you? Would it then be debited from your main account?

I think one-time use cards are just that, one-time
so that initial payment would go through, then a month later you’d have a denied transaction

I agree! Seeing the roadmap of potential additions has made me more interested

Yeah there’s more than can be done with them too. I’d like the option to split payment with the sole accounts for example, or use these accounts as a backup if a payment or direct debit fails.

Then there’s the overdraft

Is there an additional cost to the metal cards?
Also I assume interest on balance includes money that is kept in pots? Either way flexplus option is more beneficial to more users.

Jonas said Virtual debit cards
im not too bothered about them but as for your question thay would be conected to the account Joint or otherwise.

as for anything else we have Nationwide FlePlus ÂŁ13 per month
and thats Single or Joint.

I like the sound of this, some great features included

This is already how it works with just about any (non-airline) airport lounge. You don’t need a Monzo card for it, lets not pretend otherwise

It is exciting to see were Monzo Plus can go, and it is good to see it has been fleshed out with much more information compared with the shockingly poor launch last week, but I still struggle to see with the add-on model how it can be cost efficient for consumers. As soon as you add on phone and travel insurance you are paying more that you should be compared to the competition.

I like what I see
Thanks so much for the roadmap @jonas

Just going to wait for the answer to

Based on the answer to that
I’m probably going to signing up

I like this! I’ve not actively used Monzo for a while but this sort of thing could change my mind. In terms of the insurance why only offer contents? This would mean that home owners have to find buildings insurance elsewhere which is a bit less convenient.

Really not sure why all the offers are for plus customers. This is something a lot of banks such as Santander and Barclays accounts already provide for free. The mobile phone insurance is only lukewarm too as while you’re saying it’s £6 with the plus fee it’s actually £12. With Barclays for only 50p more I get 4 phones covered and unlimited gadgets.

@jonas

In regards to the proposed features (totally understand that it can change)

  • Deposit interest

    • I personally would go for the 3% for the smaller amount as there are the the savings accounts/ISA for more persistent higher interest. However would there be a chance where there could be a mix of both ? So maybe 2% for up to ÂŁ2500 and 0.04% for up to the FSCS limit?
  • Content insurance

    • This is a neat option as it could replace my current provider, would be good if it could cover out of home cover as well like some other providers
  • Mobile phone insurance

    • 100% agree with this with phone prices and how much a person relies on a phone these days, however with the UK based repairers, will they be authorised repairs with the phone manufactures? Ie: Apple Authorised repairs etc so what ever repairs and/or replacements would not void or cause issues with manufacturing warranties or future trade ins. Considering some other banks like Barclays or Vodafone (not a bank but obviously offers similar packages with insurance) don’t go through authorised service providers which cause hassle when devices are fixed incorrectly, it should be a focus Monzo can say that devices are being swapped/fixed correctly
  • Access to special offers and discounts

    • Great option as long as the offers are from popular options and online based as well for people who cannot get to specific physical shops/locations
  • Cashback and rewards

    • cant wait to see how Monzo Points go and would like to try it!
  • Virtual debit cards

    • Great option to add, been wanting to see this for a while. Makes sense to add it for paid subscribers as i can imagine the cost to manage these transactions on top of the normal engineering work within the app. One feedback/request would be the abilities to set time limits on cards (time based disposable cards ie 3 months for trials on online services)
  • Premium materials

    • A good call, would love to see this pan out.
  • Travel insurance

    • Same with content insurance, this is a good addition (potentially obviously)
  • Airport lounges

    • Again, if finalised it would be good to see pricing, but a great addition even for someone like myself who doesn’t fly often.
