You stole my photoā¦
I see
That is good
He didnāt āstealā your photo he said he seen it on social media.
I am so excited for this! It would be great if it had an enrolment to Mastercard Elite like N26.
No I hope not as that would almost certainly involve a monthly fee. It also rules out paying a one off fee for a metal card.
Iād consider a one-off payment for one of these but Iāve no intention of paying an ongoing monthly fee for a bank account (other than my business account).
Iād definitely consider a monthly fee for Monzo Metal, but it would depend on what other features it came with.
Curve Metal almost appeals but the benefits donāt quite add up for me. Weāll have to wait and see, I suppose.
Iād love a metal card too, but it is literally just a status thing.
Curve Metal is Ā£15 a month, which is far more than Iād be willing to pay - but I donāt want or need the extra things bundled with that.
What do you think would be a reasonable amount for a metal card? Ā£15?
Weāre already paying Ā£3 (soon to be Ā£6) for essentially nothing, so I guess that could subsidize the cost. So say an addon for Ā£1 a month?
The point of the Ā£3/Ā£6 is not to subsidise other things so I wouldnāt rely on that happening (under one of the possible approaches, at least).
Yes please, perfect, and then I can get rid of my N26 account completely.
Did a bit more digging and Revolut give you one free replacement card per year, then charge Ā£40.
N26 charge you Ā£40 for every lost card.
So I now reckon Monzo will charge anywhere between Ā£1-Ā£4 a month for Metal.
If itās over Ā£2 I donāt think Iād be interested. Paying Ā£6 + Ā£2 = Ā£8 a month just for having a custom monzo.me link is quite substantial.
What is the most you would pay IN ADDITION to the (soon to be) Ā£6 a month Monzo Plus fee?
- Ā£1
- Ā£2
- Ā£3
- Ā£4
- Ā£5
- Ā£6
- Ā£7
- Ā£8
- Ā£9

You missed the option of Ā£0 off the listed options.
Which is what a considerable amount of people would no doubt choose.
It entirely depends what they add to the core fee over time. Also the card could be a one off additional fee.
A red metal card or the hot coral in metal would look pretty dope
Theyāve already done it and it looks like A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Itās hard to say. I suppose the difference with Monzo vs. other fee-based financial products is that youāre paying a la carte for each feature. This makes it much clearer how much youāre paying for specific features.
To take an extreme example, American Express just increased the cost of Amex Platinum from Ā£450 per year to Ā£575 per year. Some features were tweaked a little, but one of the big changes for everyone is changing the card to metal. Whether this metal card is worth > Ā£10/mo I donāt know, but the charge is obfuscated by the overall package.
Given I use Apple Pay in most situations Iād probably not pay a huge amount for Monzo Platinum and, frankly, Monzo doesnāt have the image / status that something like an Amex Platinum card has (not that I have one).
This is a great point. Monzo has always presented itself as an accessible bank for all, rather than elite and exclusive. Having something at that level wouldnāt feel very Monzo.
Monzo Plus is relatively affordable so it works - and itāll be great when more features are available. But something comparable to the cost of Amex just wouldnāt.
Itās conceivable that, with all of the Monzo Plus options selected, someone might end up paying a lot per month for their account. Adding airport lounge access, travel insurance, car hire insurance, and other perks all have a cost (and a high value to some customers). Frequent travellers can get significant value from the Ā£575 / year Amex Platinum card.
The great part about the Monzo Plus concept is that you can pay for the bits you want and not the bits you donāt. I just donāt know that the demographic who would pay for these features overlaps with Monzoās demographic.
It could potentially build up to quite a lot, but yes, the āpick and mixā concept is what makes it what it is and I love that itās so flexible.
Totally agree re: demographic too.
