Monzo in the Media šŸ“°

Don’t complain to Monzo for the next 3 months

They changed it soon after:

  • 8 weeks of paid sabbatical leave after every 5 years of service

She’ll probably need it if she’s Complaints Manager…

I must have been ignored by her on many occasions.

Will we notice any difference? :face_with_tongue:

A complaints team manager does not handle complaints from their team.

Which is why lots of women feel pushed out (heh) after maternity.

Did AI write that?

I honestly vomit a little at LinkedIn speak.

ā€œUsing time intentionallyā€

ā€œGratefulā€

ā€œCuriousā€

Nobody talks like this in real life.

LinkedIn isn’t real life. If you were a thought leader you’d know that

Most social media isn’t real life.

With the kind of replies I get from complaints departments, I can’t be surprised.

May be I get surprised when they write in natural language.

What do you mean nobody talks like this in real life? Today I’m using my time intentionally to go see friends at a local bar later, I’m grateful that the weather is still nice however I am curious as to who may show up tonight.

3 months!?

If I take 1 week off I’m so far out the loop with everything going on. I dread to think about how much you’d need to catchup on after 3 months.

Do it.

Be curious.

I already know it wouldn’t be worth it.

The amount of time it’d take to get back on top of everything while simultaneously ā€œtaking overā€ again gives me anxiety.

I actually enjoy my job, so I’d miss it too.

Dont get me wrong, regular breaks are a must. However, spread them out over the year. Dont burn through them all in one fell swoop.

Maybe a mean question, but what’s the benefit of Monzo offering these sabbaticals to their staff? Obviously it gives staff some time off to just relax, see family, take a break from work. But what’s in in for Monzo. Because Starling, Chase, any high street bank I’ve looked at their job listings and none offer this benefit

I’m guessing unfortunately the Monzo staff in South Africa (or wherever their contact centre is) don’t get this sabbatical?

Retention.

It’s expensive and timely to recruit. If you’ve got someone for 5 years, then some paid time off, is so much cheaper than replacing them every 18 months as they move on.

Why would they? Those are outsourced staff, not even directly contracted with Monzo and are located in a different jurisdiction.

No wonder the service is so subpar, they’ve got no incentive to diagnose problems properly, it’s all about how quick a ticket gets resolved.

IMO bank CS should be provided by the people who live in the same jurisdiction as the customers.

My workload would be unbearable.

someone i know from civil service told me, they use AI for responses for complaints

I would agree but sadly it’s cheaper to outsource. Plus in many cases, the conversations take place over messages, so you have no really idea where the person answering is actually based
