Monzo closed my account without notice

Monzo closed my account without notice after having a bad phonecall that triggered my mental health. I have taken absoloute offence to this and find it to be discrimination against the mental health act and equality act of 2010
I was due to get payed tomorrow and Ethan from monzo saw this and decided to close my account. Disgusting.
Because I get under stress easy and my mental health causes me to get worked up. Instead of working with me they have made my life living hell
I cannot pay phone bills, tax, rent , feed my dog or myself tomorrow all because my account has been closed. Disgusting. IM GOING TO JOIN Revault now where i will be treated with respect and decency

Good luck with Revolut.

Sorry to hear that your account got closed.

It will be unlikely that your account was closed because you were getting paid. It will be related to risk/fraud and they can’t make exceptions to this.

If you want to appeal, you can, if you haven’t already. Otherwise, as you’ve mentioned it’s best moving onto another bank

You don’t get to make those findings. You are not a judge.

There is clearly more to this story than what you have said. Either way, it’s not something the community can help you with.

Your only option is to make a complaint.

Lots of content missing from this. Clearly more to it than “monzo closed my account in violation of my mental health”.

All those things are coming out tomorrow mid-month and on a weekend?

I’m sure you have food for yourself and the dog. Nobody lives day-to-day in this regard.

Get setup with your new bank, move the money over and you can be back up and running in no time,

There was an ombudsman ruling posted recently where someone was abusing staff repeatedly and blamed mental health. They got so many chances.

OP has created some fairytale to try and justify it. He’ll be back soon and the flags will be out.

Spread the word, monzo is not what it sets itself out to be. I do not reccomend getting a Monzo account if you have mental health. They just might discriminate against your mental health amd the way you act and speak which results in account closure without notice. Help me spread the work across all social medias amd platforms to raise awareness for the vulnerable looking to bank. Monzo is the worst bank on the market, the support team get offened easy and your speaking to foreigners 99% of the time that dont understand the U.K benefit system. Copy and paste this and save a vulnerable person from joining monzo today

You would be surprised just how many people with long-term mental health conditions believe that businesses are required to take abuse as a reasonable adjustment.

It’s a complete misunderstanding of the legislation. Requiring your staff to take abuse, even if it’s the result of a recognised disability, would not be considered reasonable by any judge.

People need to stop shouting about laws unless they actually understand them.

@Lh100lh youre better off just raising your concerns via email to complaints@monzo.com

Nobody here can help with this.

@_Tom @GraemeMonzo @Dan5

Could this be boxed off and dealt with via monzo instead of speculation and potentially causing further distress for OP :pray:t3:

Monzo are better off without you.

Hi Luke, Welcome to the community. It’s mainly customers here in the forum (including myself), so keep that in mind when reading any responses.

I’m sorry to hear your poor experience with Monzo Support.
As Ordog mentioned, it’s extremely unlikely that your account was closed simply because you were getting paid. There would be more to it than that. Monzo wouldn’t just close your account without notice, unless related to fraud.

With regards to your points about mental health act discrimination:
It okay to feel like you are being discriminated against, however it would be a judge that needs to ultimately decide that.
Did you ever make Monzo aware of your issues relating to Mental Health? They would have been able to assess your comments about it, and add a vunerable customer flag to your account which should put extra measures in place, and possibly adjust how they interact with you.

All I can suggest at this point is to make a formal complaint with Monzo (a public forum is not the place to do that). If you are then not happy with the outcome of that complaint, then it’s Ombudsman time.
However, I would suggest taking a step back, and having a think about what may have caused this in the first place. Switching to Revolut is fine if that’s what you want to do, but be mindful that they too may close your account for the same/similar reasons as Monzo, as i’m dountful that it’s purely due to Mental Health.

As the op has indicated they do have mental health problems. I think perhaps we should all exercise some restraint and await the mods.

Opinions aside, they are clearly vulnerable and need additional support.

I won’t be commenting any further.

Good luck to the op. And best wishes to Ethan.
