If we’re not mistaken, version 4.0 of the Monzo app will be with us soon.
If we assume that Monzo is going straight from 3.99 to 4.0, then the big, shiny, round number release is likely to land for beta/testflight customers next week, with a full roll out the week of 20th September 2021.
Of course, that might well not happen, but as a bit of weekend fun, I thought we could have a go at guessing what might be in a big 4.0 release!
This - of course - calls for a poll. I’ve tried to include things that we know might be on the cards to see what the community thinks a big 4.0 release might include - and a few curve balls too!
And sorry business and US folk: this is aimed at UK current accounts!
What’s going to make the cut for the 4.0 release?

Disclaimer! Monzo hasn’t really done big bang mega releases before. While there are signs that they might start going in that direction, we really don’t know, so let’s not get our hopes up (too much)!
Just for fun, here’s (nearly the) same poll but… only Monzo employees can vote. (And I think that I’ve made it anonymous but I need someone to vote to confirm…
)
Who will be brave enough? How honest will they be?
Are you seriously trying to get me sacked?

My name is Dan and I endorse this poll
At least one of these things is right…
At least one of these things is a good idea (But we haven’t built it. Soz)
I hadn’t given dark mode much thought until I saw it as an option in this poll.
That’s the sort of thing that makes sense to launch in a new whole number.
Another thing that makes sense in this retrospect is to see the finalisation of the changes to the UI we’ve seen gradually roll out over various updates. The home tab is the only one left to update and refine, and it’s also the biggest job and most important tab. I also feel like it’s in desperate need of some TLC. It’s too ornamented for my liking, and could benefit from a little order and simplicity.
I’m obviously very excited about the virtual card teases. Enough that I went ahead and immediately upgraded to plus again so I’m ready. I can already envision how these might then go on to tie into and improve the rumoured BNPL pot for plus members. A new product launch of this nature, heavily reliant on the software side of things is every bit as worthy of a 4.0 release too. I’m partly expecting it to come with a virtual card as standard regardless of if you’re a plus member or not. Is a neat way to offer those who apply for it a little teaser of what you get with plus and might lead to some conversions.
Big picture wise, I’m definitely getting a sense that there’s a lot of cohesion coming our way. Cohesive polished software features have been their forte of late. Hope it continues, and it feels like it will.
I’m excited. Just trying to keep my expectations in check. As much as I’d love a big bang update, and as much as that would make a bit of sense for a new version number, I can totally see that not happening, and the number being rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things and Monzo just chugging away at a nice pace.
Any chance could look at the Apple Watch notifications.
It comes up as flag as expenses, but to change this to allow us to choose the category would be a lot better, though probably a lot of work involved to make such a change.
This entire thread requires me to perform a masterful act to try and not get sacked, however! I will say, that I am disappointed because none of the options request the best feature of them all, a more performant continuous integration pipeline
Thank you for the poll, clearly the public wishes us to use a more performant continuous integration pipeline.
I will personally meet with TS Anil and show him the demands of the people, together we will increase the developmental velocity of the mono-repo by decreasing the time it takes for our integration & unit tests to run
