Mobile Networks

You’d have to port the number out, and then port it in to the contract you have left.

I think a Vodafone payg sim from a local shop should do it, or eSIM via the website if it allows a free sim that way, port it next day, and then back out to the old contract you have left

MSE has a nice Lebara 50GB £1.30 for 7 months offer, so that’s me doing the old PAC dance again.

Just fixed this after some troubleshooting with customer support. There is a setting on android under mobile networks called ‘allow 2G service’. If this is set to off then the call forwarding options don’t work, MMI codes don’t work etc. but flip it to on and they all started working immediately for me

Do check if this fixes it for you!

Indeed, GSM codes need 2G or 3G to function.

Sky building up to add 5G+? Maybe it will come to Monzo.

I cancelled Monzo yesterday and moved my number to Voxi. The speeds are impressive often faster than my main EE in most areas….

VodaThree is a great network, especially when Vodafone utilises the Three network equipment.

I believe Monzo made a big mistake in selecting 1global/02 as their partner. Even a capped Vodafone offer, similar to what Revolut provides, could be a significantly better option for me…

Or with them directly. I’d forgo roaming as I don’t go away much and an eSIM is cheap enough to buy when away anyway.

I’m with voxi and had zero issues, just a shame they don’t work on the Merseyrail underground but in all fairness I’m not down there that long.

Sky mobile is the first MVNO to offer 5G+ via their new Samsung Fold phones.

It wouldn’t work for me for some reason, but using another browser did. I’d guess it’s my ad guard.

It can be Sky’s website, it’s a very very janky beast.

Sky Mobile 5G+

5G+ is our latest 5G mobile network technology. It gives you a more reliable connection and smoother performance.

Unlike earlier versions of 5G, 5G+ doesn’t rely on 4G infrastructure. That helps keep your connection fast and responsive, even as demand grows.

Who can get 5G+?

5G+ is now available on the following phones:

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

To get 5G+, you’ll also need to be using an eSIM.

How to start using 5G+

Make sure you:

  1. Have an eligible phone (Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 or Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra).
  2. Are using an eSIM.
  3. Have the latest software updates installed.
  4. Have the free 5G Network add-on on your phone.
  5. Once you’ve done this, your phone should connect to 5G+ automatically.

So some hope then that it’ll expand to more phones on Sky and also out on to other MVNO’s.

Limited to the new Samsungs just to get more sales i reckon just like the fast lane / Network slicing bit on EE

So it appears you might not have to buy the phone from Sky at least. I remember this happening in the past with (I suspect) Samsung paying some £££ to get a timed exclusive.

it could mean other o2 mvno will get access at some point but I doubt voda will want to give it away and EE is charging a premium for it.

I’m not sure O2 has network slicing. I wonder how it works, as it can’t simply be the network profile surely?

Unless it does just work for new eSIM customers and they worded it otherwise.

I’m not sure 1Global has 5G+ setup in their core; all traffic runs through their own.

Sorry, i should have been a bit clearer. The limitation to the Samsung phones isn’t technical, just Sky want people to buy them and trying to entice them with that offer.

The EE comparison was that they were only offering the fast lane option on plans bought with a phone, not sim only (at the moment) Can’t be a technical reason why Sim Only couldn’t get it.
