Mobile Networks

Yeah, crazy slow and sometimes non-existent. I wonder if any networks are actually good in central London now? Vodafone seemed to be improving at the point I switched a couple of years ago.

From what I understood it’s the councils and residents blocking new masts going up so I doubt anything will change any time soon.

No service for Three, O2, Vodafone.

Stuck on my revolut esim, full EE signal on the Merseyrail underground, £3 for 1GB was a bit of a sting but given the WiFi isn’t working, real treat to work so well.

I always find it funny how people differ - EE works perfectly in London for me. Three and O2 were nightmares.

I work within sight of Parliament so I feel like I am in “central” frequently enough!

I think it really depends on the mast, and how many are connected to it.

Vodafone I know near any hospital has terrible coverage - and I believe it’s because the NHS runs on Vodafone! So suddenly thousands of extra devices connected.

I find Three to be the fastest 5G but many people I know wouldn’t touch Three with a barge pole. It really has a bad reputation!

I’ve never had issues with EE anywhere even in buildings when travelling to Laaaannddhhonn, whereas my backup line, Sky a.k.a O2 never works.

Depends on where you are. There are plenty of good spots, but sadly the places I go seem to be quite bad. I’m fairly sure it’s a capacity issue, as the phone will often show multiple bars of signal, but drop calls or refuse to load web pages.

Definitely this.

Just moving a hundred yards or so can make a huge difference to your mobile reception.

I turn my home router a cm to the right and I lose about 40-60mbps.

Very fickle :joy:

Sat behind Liverpool St station. Very poor here.

This is mine near work, roughly between Lambeth and Westminster bridges:

What’s the speed test app you’re using?

Funnily, the most reliable and fastest speeds I seem to get now are in the underground tunnels that now have 5g

This is a thing?

yeah most of central https://content.tfl.gov.uk/below-ground-4g-5g-tube-map-april-2025.pdf

It’s funny as I’ve just moved to Lebara and I can’t get a 5g signal on the underground

You’re on the poor man’s Vodafone that’s why.

Very much so! Didn’t think it wouldn’t work there tho. But for £1 a month I think I can live without a signal for 10 mins a day.
