1.25 pence or 1.25%?
I quoted directly from the article so it will be 1.25 pence - no doubt they are hoping the proposed charge is too small for customers to notice etc (if banks don’t asorb it as Lloyds and Nationwide have said they will)
Personally I do a lot of bank transfers and if I had to pay a fee (however small) would need to rethink how I organised my finances…
Yeah, like I think I would have to rethink almost all my finances as I transfer somethings maybe once a day…
EDIT:Its also on all online bank transactions
Yikes, that could really add up!
If this was the case, I would move my main bills account to Nationwide or Lloyds so that I still have free standing orders and money transfers. I’m unsure if Monzo would ‘pass this cost’ onto us or not as they do like to pass on certain costs like with cash deposits. Its a shame my first thought isn’t Monzo wouldn’t do this…
If Monzo did this I would leave.
Is v3 in some way involved with this?
No - its appears that a online transaction charge is one option https://appcrmsteeringgroup.uk/ are looking at to fund the new ‘APP scams’ compensation. Any charge would come in from Jan 2020
Its also completely voluntary
Obviously cannot speak for them, but would be extremely surprised if they did given their stated and inferred positions on cash, cheques and using cards and payments where you can
Best we know that is purely down to the app versioning, which is likely tied in with the redesign
Anything that happens within the sphere of the Payments team would happen in the backend processing

I get cheques from my school in the form of a bursary, usually ranging between £150 and £250 every term. I currently use my Lloyds account to take a photo of the cheque and then transfer the money into my Monzo once it has cleared. Being able to skip a step and have it clear directly into my Monzo account would be great!
So it seems lots of people are still receiving cheques as payment, weather it be from companies that owe them money, HMRC love paying people by cheque, or relatives sending birthday or Xmas money in cards through the post. A lot of the high street banks now have cheque imaging or it is in the pipeline, so surely monzo as an app based online bank need too offer the service sooner rather than later in order to keep up with the apparent demand.
Not going to quibble with your wider point, but later there will likely be less demand rather than more
Sure there are still a fair amount of cheques knocking around, but a lot fewer than before and going down steeply in use
I have not written one for several years and have not received one in two, and I cannot be that uncommon there
I think I receive and write more cheques now days. I write them for work and to pay kids schools. My elderly relatives always send birthday and Xmas money by cheque and HMRC send all tax rebates by cheque. 5 -10 years ago I was lucky if I got 1 cheque a year. I have 3 cheques in my wallet now that I need to cash.
Transferred ownership of a vehicle and the remaining tax was cancelled. It’ll be sent to me from the DVLA by cheque. Wasn’t possible to request another option for the rebate.
To be honest, speak with your money and take your money where you have the features you need.
So I had this impression, but it’s changed now.
I overpaid by £576 2018/19 tax year due to my tax code getting messed up (they advised me to wait until the 2019/20 tax year to get it sorted, but that’s a whole other issue).
I called them up on Tuesday to see what can be done. The woman on the phone did the calculation, said I was due a rebate and I’d receive a letter in the post with instructions on how to claim the money (one of which would be a cheque.
She also advised me that if I didn’t want to wait, I can log into my Personal Tax Account online, enter my bank details and the amount would be sent by BACS. That’s what I’ve done and I’m now waiting for the money to hit my account! Easy!
tl;dr - HMRC have a portal where you can enter your bank details to get tax refunds via BACS.
That’s strange. I got my last one bank transferred to me
You’d be surprised because this topic is a lot of the same people commenting.
Overall this feature has only had 61 votes out of ~2,000,000 customers. I’d suggest you stick your vote in the below topic too
They’ve paid via BACS for a while now. I’m surprised people are still getting cheques.
