Thanks for this! How do you specify that sound just for Monzo? I can’t see it in the app settings (although probably not looking hard enough)???

You need to download a file manager from Play Store, locate the MP3 and hold down/long press on the MP3 to select it, hit the 3 dots icon and copy or move it to a location of your choice, e.g. notifications, ringtones, sounds. From there it can be selected from the Monzo settings in the main settings icon. Select it for incoming transactions and outgoing transactions.

Now I just get a boring beep I can hardly hear.
When this has happened to me, I’ve found uninstalling and reinstalling the app usually works.
It’s a brand new phone with a brand new install.
Generally, an uninstall/reinstall fixes this. If not, there are a few things to run through. Starting with basics - is your sound on? Turned up? Do other sounds work OK? Are notifications in the Monzo app turned on (Device/Settings?)

Android no longer gives the ability to assign specific tones for specific apps. One notification tone for everything.
What version of Android are you using?
Stock Android 10 (5 April security patch) allows setting a custom sound to almost anything;
Settings > Apps and notifications > Monzo > Notifications > select required notification > Advanced > Sound > (default = ‘app provided sound’ but can select any audio file on device - ‘My Sounds’)
This will of course differ depending on the system skin in use, but generally should be almost the same.
I’ve no idea what it sounds like, my phone is on permanent silent 🤷🤣
