Lockdown habits

Snap! I miss my baristas more then I miss most of my colleagues…

(One of the best/worst things going full Monzo taught me was how much I spend in coffee shops every month :hushed: )

To be honest, I’ve always been envious of people who can give up on a book halfway through. I’ve wasted so much time reading something I don’t enjoy in the vain hope that it’ll get better…

Ive done the same. Also with TV series and films.

My top tip for finishing books: go for novellas

I’m not the biggest fan of long books because, unlike people who get lost in a book and never want it to finish, I like to polish someone each book off fairly quickly so I can move on to something new. It’s because I like reading so much I want to experience as much as possible.

I can recommend the following books for starters, none of which should be any trouble to finish:

Convenience Store Woman, Sayaka Murata
No Longer Human, Osamu Dazai
They Shoot Horses Don’t They, Horance McCoy
Dept. of Speculation, Jenny Offill
If Cats Disappeared from the World, Genki Kawamura
The Many, Wyl Menmuir

Lots of classic SF is also shorter than modern SF, if that’s your thing.

Short stories can also work, but I find in my case they have to be short enough to read in one sitting.

(And finally, never be ashamed about giving up on a book you’re not getting on with. There are too many books out there to waste time reading one you’re not enjoying. Give it a fair shake, 40-70 pages say, and if it’s still not doing it for you it’s OK to move on!)

I started a bullet journal - I’m not one to organise myself at all and started it thinking there’s little to do at the moment so perfect time to get myself in order as wel as finding it a good place to write down my anxieties.

It’s been really therapeutic!

Oops. Clearly should’ve been ‘something’ (to match the later use of the word) but I’ve edited it to something altogether clearer. No polishing off of any someones going on, I promise.

Says brummie on my birth certificate, and I grew up near Weston-super-MudMare

  1. Exercise/running

  2. making my lunch before work and not going to the canteen

Skip Hulk. There’s no need to inflict that kind of pain on yourself

Good shout actually, I’ve been meaning to catch up with MCU for a good while.

What’s the cheapest easiest (definitely not illegal ) way to do it?

Disney + trial

I’d check out a free trial with Disney+ if you can find one! :+1:t3:

Now I’m forced to admit… this is one I skipped because it’s not on Disney+… but yes, based on how it’s reviewed, I don’t think I missed much! And at least I don’t have a continuity issue between Bruce Banners

Thanks for the response (and recommendations!)

The issue with me hasn’t been that I give up on a book that I’m not enjoying (I’ve always been fine with that though!) or lose interest but rather that I routinely get distracted by something else and by the time I go back to the book I’ve forgotten everything! I’ve always WANTED to finish reading them just haven’t managed to focus :joy:

Disney+ give you a week free of charge - which might even be long enough for some people to get through all the MCU on there.

Failing that you could definitely watch it all within a month then cancel - I think £5.99 to watch all those films is pretty good value personally!

Excellent idea! I’m a bit of a marvel novice - what’s the best order to do it in? Release date? Or were they released out of sync with their place in the MCU timeline?

The first time you watch them putting them in the order they were released is the only way that will make sense!

(Helpfully Disney+ actually does this for you)

This is the order I’m going in… if anyone spots any glaring mistakes please let me know!

Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain Marvel
Iron Man
(Skipped Hulk as not on Disney+)
Iron Man 2
Thor
The Avengers
Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Ant-Man :point_left:t3: where I’m up to
Captain America: Civil War
Black Panther
Doctor Strange
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Ant-Man and The Wasp
Thor: Ragnarok
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Endgame
Spider-Man: Far From Home

Happy watching! :us: :spider: :bow_and_arrow: :hammer: :alien: :robot: :ant:
