Just noticed I got that yesterday.
It seems that the price of ITVX premium will be £5.99 monthly/£59.99 yearly
Should get a bit of a discount then if you get to keep the old price until the end of 2023. Would people signing up now get that same ādiscountā when ITVX launches?
And just to add to the confusion to what is going on with Britbox, they are getting series 3 of Staged exclusively a week or so before ITVX launches.
Damn. Now wondering, with the Britbox integration and the originals, if I could possibly quickly sign up for ITV Hub+ today for Ā£40 and save Ā£20 for the year. Thereās probably enough on Britbox alone that would make it worth it (if I [remember to make use of it/carve out the time for watching it]).
If you genuningly will use it, it seems like a good idea. For me, I have got a few free trials and there is never enough on it for me. They have had a few good originals, but I think the 2nd series of them are becoming ITVX shows so should be free I think.
Iām not that bothered about most of the āoldā shows (and by old, I mean a few years old) and the ones that I do want to watch, are free on their channels respective streaming services anyway, just with adverts. Probably isnāt worth it for me.
Thereās quite a few shows on Britbox that I missed both on first broadcast, and on iPlayer/ITV Hub before they moved to Britbox. Unforgotten is perhaps the biggest one that immediately comes to mind, and thereās also This Life - which I was slowly watching on iPlayer but is now showing as its going to be removed in 14 days, and Iād have to watch about three episodes a day to finish it all in time ![]()
Iād probably have to make it my only streaming subscription for the year to ensure Iām not distracted by other things. But broadcast TV and Blu-Rays may also distract anyway. So I am going to have to think carefully about it.
Anyone else utterly confused with the forthcoming changes to ITV Hub and BritBox?
Part of me is thinking that ITVX will be a masterpiece and a beautiful piece of engineering.
Part of me is thinking that itās going to be a GDPR nightmare.
Part of me is thinking itāll be rushed into service, be buggy and will crap out during an England match.
And part of me knows that those thoughts are not all mutually exclusiveā¦
From what i can tell(and Im really not sure), ITVX is ITV Hub rebranded. ITV Hub+ is becoming ITVX premium which will now include Britbox.
However, I think Britbox may also exist separately based on some of their tweets. This is what im most confused with ( and their tweets dont really clarify. Will current Britbox subscribers get ITVx premium?)
And just to be clear, none of these twitter accounts are mine
How so?
There was some convo on it earlier in the year. Of course, opinions differed:
Thank you for reminding me of this, very helpful in giving me more to consider re: if I want to sign up or not.
I think even if you donāt get it, Ā£5.99 isnāt too bad to subscribe for a month and then cancel when you have something you want to watch.
However, I do wonder if other channels will want to continue supporting it now it is fully owned by ITV and for many people, will just be another part of ITVX. Maybe channels will start pulling their shows when the contract runs out?
Remember when BritBox was touted as a Netflix competitor?
A lot of people just didnāt see the point of it. It had some old shows, fine, but a lot of the shows were already available on iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, and My 5, just with adverts (or without them with ITV Hub+ and All 4+, and on iPlayer per standard).
I can understand the point of it internationally (where BBC Studios still co-owns it) but here, it just didnāt fit in anywhere when all the channels already have their own services.
For a limited period. After Britbox launched, a lot of shows would be removed from iPlayer after a year and be Britbox-only, which wouldnāt have been the case previously. In some cases I found it quite surprising how quickly something went from being really available to Britbox paywalled (hello lockdown comedy, Staged).
Most of the popular iPlayer shows stay on iPlayer for ages, and come back when another series is released. Obviously some are removed for good and that is where Britbox is helpful, but then you had people questioning why they had to pay for Britbox when they already pay for the license fee (I know the reason why, many of the public wonāt).
This I canāt argue with, can wholly agree that it was always very hard to sell Britbox to a British public that - as far as they were concerned - had already paid for the shows.
What was the reason?
