Only five months until iOS17 which looks like lots of widget improvements according to this article. Will Monzo maintain this back-pedalling by continuing to have no widgets?
Are there any other banks at the moment doing widgets? Apple Card doesnāt count
Iām not aware of any, even in the Fintech space. My theory for this is (and I am no developer) is that itās a combination of it actually requiring a lot of work to support the data transfer from the application to the widget and not really being worth the hassle for the 10% of people who would actually use it.
That and the fact that it would almost certainly require the rebuilding of APIās because Apple isnāt a bank and therefore Open banking wouldnāt really apply here.
It would be almost laughably trivial for Monzo (or any other bank) to do a modern iOS widget.
They have simply chosen not to. Monzo donāt bother with OS-specific niceties any more.
Dunno about that, donāt they still have separate iOS and Android teams?
Of course - but they donāt take advantage of OS specific features. I mean Christ how long did it take them to do dark mode.
Iād be extremely pleased to have Shortcuts support, but that will never happen.
Confirmed iOS 18 will drop legacy widgets, and since thereās no modern Monzo widget weāll have no way to check our balance quickly.
Thereās no wallet widget for balance, itās only offering an Apple Pay order tracking.
There is on iOS 18. Youāre still iOS 17 if you arenāt seeing it.
