Monzo Widget Improvements

Given the huge updates in iOS 14 around widgets, it would be really cool to see some more interesting stuff displayed. Right now it’s just limited to total money/spent today, but I think it would make a much more useful widget to show recent transactions as well. Different amounts of information could be shown depending on the size of the widget.

I also think we need to see more than one account at a time. Maybe any upcoming payments, possibly with a warning if said payment is going to take us into overdraft or whatever.

Just having a widget would be a bonus.

I was about to reply with the same :joy:

What’s a widget, oh sorry I’m the poor relation today with Android 🤦

If you have Android your should be all over widgets!

I’d be all over it like a rash but Monzo don’t have a widget for us lot

In that case, it looks like widgets could use a boost all around for iOS and android. The features that it could support is debatable: maybe a chart, recent transactions, etc. Just think it would be super interesting to see how this could play out and could definitely be a fun feature to have if implemented properly.

One idea is that these widgets should try and display meaningful info, so if you didn’t have any recent transactions, it could intelligently display a weekly spending info, etc. Also, given that widgets can have different sizes, it would be really interesting to see how Monzo could adapt and intelligently surface different content depending on widget size.

I’d like the concept of a widget which shows the expected date of your direct debits & standing orders going out, no more having to open the app to see what’s next

I’m not sure how easy it’ll be for Monzo to implement the new Widgets, from my understanding all the new iOS 14 widgets are in Swift UI, which makes it significantly more difficult as they’d have to re-write a whole Chuck of their widget code. all I’m saying is I wouldn’t get your hopes up for anything happening in the near or far future as I think they’ve got many other priorities than a complete widget re-write
:frowning:

Could be a Monzo time project perhaps? :man_shrugging: I think current balance, committed spend bar and last transaction would be good options.

Really?

I genuinely didn’t realise the Monzo Widget was iOS only, wow.

In regards to the OP - split around this. I’m not sure I’d want that kind of information on my home screen to be honest.

I could be wrong, but I’d also think Monzo would have to re-build the app in SwiftUI for them to utilise WidgetKit and I can’t see that happening any time soon.

Anyway - I think it’s a good idea for some just not something I’d like to see, personally.

Yeah, no Android widget so far :slightly_frowning_face:

So I’d then fallback to a Meta widget driven by IFTTT. But I roll with a Joint account only and Monzo Joint accounts don’t work with IFTTT.
