Introducing Salary Sorter and Bills Pots 🎉

Hey fletch, welcome to the forum.

You can currently move what’s left into a pot of your choice from the summary page at the end of a given month. If you go to the summary - which if you don’t know where that is can be found by clicking the pie chart on the home page - and the scrolling all the way down to the bottom. I believe you may need to set a summary period for this to work. For me I set mine from 1st day to last day of the month as my pay day is the last working day. That is all editable from within the summary screen.

You can get around Spotify by using your mobile provider for now - if you’re that dedicated. i.e. EE and o2 can charge you for Spotify using their DD. Of course, that’s a workaround

It changed today, but still makes no sense to me

Maybe they changed something, or maybe it’s to do with the fact I have payments coming out of my bill pot tomorrow - as I posted above, that has messed up my left to spend today, which was working fine before. It now includes all of tomorrow’s bill pot payments in the amount it deducts from my balance to get left to spend, making it inaccurate.

Yep, I think the summary is flawed with this new bills post implementation. That seems to be a clear trend now. It can’t work out that the money is coming from a bills pot and so falls flat on its face. It would be somewhat beneficial to turn summary off if bills pots are enabled while they fix it I guess.

This has been an issue before the bills pot

Ive been notified pretty much every month that my pay day SO’s into other pots and accounts will fail due to insufficient funds, despite the feed also telling me that my wages were due to arrive

This is an awesome feature! However it only works for Direct Debits, any plans to roll it out for subscriptions as well? my landlord withdraws money from us as a subscription and not direct debit, do you have any fix for that?

It’s been asked for repeatedly (please look back a bit in this topic) & that this is the intention, but it’s not as straight-forward as direct debits and standing orders. Hopefully something will be available soon.

Seriously? Use a cashback card then! There’s no way I’d use Monzo if my landlord took rent via a card subscription :open_mouth:

And Standing Orders (just to be clear if anyone new is bouncing it at the end of the thread)

Arrgh, what fresh hell is that?!

I’ve not been paid since Salary Sorter was introduced - do only round numbers work? I’m perhaps a little OCD with my monthly spreadsheet but I’d like to transfer right up to the last penny.

Am I right in saying money gets moved from your pot to main account and bills get paid from that? I’m wondering what would happen if you had a DD being paid from a pot but you’ve not got enough money in the pot but combined with your main current account ‘pot’ you do?

As bills pots work by transferring the money from the pot to the main account before payment is taken, then it would depend on how gracefully the bills pot failure fails.

Bill of £20, and £15 in bills pot. One of two things could happen:

  1. £15 gets moved to main account. (Pot is under transfer needed so whole thing is emptied)
  2. Nothing gets moved. (Money in pot doesn’t reach money required so whole transfer barfs)

Would be interesting to see if anyone has had any experience with this situation so far. Or if anyone wants to test what happens by deliberately underfilling a bills pot (while still having plenty in their main account, natch. I wouldn’t want to encourage anyone to paint themselves into a corner were a bill may not get paid on time).

It’s supposed to be 1 on your list but I haven’t tried it yet. I’ll find out at some point this month because my bills pot is a few pennies short.

I’m hoping it is option 1 as that would make the most sense. @Feathers, anywhere that Monzo have clearly stated it is that option?

Yes. I’d have to find it though…

Edit:

Here we are

I don’t remember anymore, but I think pennies were supported.

I don’t think my work would be very happy to pay me in £ , to an overseas bank too :weary: they insist we all have to get paid in to this particular local bank to save charges and I have to transfer it to my spending account.

It is option 1. I was short by 1 penny :joy: the actual debit occurs from the current account, all bill pots equate to are fancy automated pot transfers.

You can transfer the exact amount including pence

@anon59758512 - my transaction list is full of pot transfers, anyway these can be grouped for things like this?

So salary sorter keeps on crashing for me on my Pixel 2 XL running Android 10.

I try to assign values to each pot and either the app crashes or values across pots jump about.
