Imperial Measurements

Very, very roughly. A mile is about 1.6km. A kilometre is about 0.6 miles, which might be what you’re thinking about.

I was going to say the same. Glad, for once, I read entire thread before replying to an individual post. Would have looked a right berk :joy::joy:

On an imperial note, imagine the panic at the pumps if we went back to displaying fuel prices “per gallon”! :scream::joy::joy:

Erm…!

Please elaborate? Or was it posted just to try and poke fun at my expense?

Clearly, @Anarchist stated what I meant. I know that a kilometre and mile measure similar distances and a 6th wouldn’t measure that much of a distance at all. It was a slip of the tongue. I didn’t feel I needed to amend the original post or further reply as @Anarchist’s post was quite clear.

Also my point, and that error, is similar to @HoldenCarver’s point. I’m a generation who hasn’t needed to use imperial measurements, let alone convert them at any point in the last 36 years of my life (except maybe in my GCSE’s).

It’s just a post on the internet, Kevyn.

Being a modern, progressive person I cringe when I hear the phrase " Bring Back "
Yeah why don’t you bring back the dark days, slavery, police brutality, racism etc

Well I’ve never experienced any of them. I don’t see the national front marching around, neither do I see police kicking peoples heads in or dragging them from cars.

It probably does still exist but much less than before.

Just because you haven’t personally seen any doesn’t mean isn’t happening. All of those things absolutely do still happen today - dare I say ‘Google it’ and you’ll see?

Regardless, what I’m trying to say is that we should be moving forwards and not bringing back old ways.

Well this veered off imperial measurements at a million yards an hour…

Speaking of which, when are we finally going to get round to metricating the clocks?

We’ve never really been totally on board with metric measurements in the UK
Pubs still sell beer in pints, road distances are measured in miles, eggs packaged in half dozen/dozen boxes, etc.

I was fortunate enough to be taught both, metric at school and imperial by my parents, so have no problem with either, but as many have said, they have had no need to use imperial measurements ever, so I see little point in changing things back.

Screen sizes are in inches everywhere I’ve been in Europe, so it’s not just us.

Another one… car tyres
Width of the tyre is in mm, but the diameter in inches

The option to use imperial or metric measurements was never banned in the UK, despite what the UK government states as it was never ratified… the Prime Minister is two bobs short of a shilling…

That was my reaction, too

I had a look at the Carrefour website (French supermarket, as is, in France). You can get them in boxes of 10 and 15 as well. Would that count as metric?

That’s how I buy them tbh. 10 large or 15 mixed

OK, eggs probably not the best example

All that will happen is things get repacked to suit.

2.2lbs to 1kg I think.

So what you’d bought for £x and got 1kg, soon will be the same price and you’ll get 2lb. Same price, slightly less product.
