I have just had to have my card replaced. I am going to a cycling event and there will be stalls without contactless payment. How do I get cash out of my Monzo before my new card arrives?
Any ideas? I am in the UK.
You can’t, essentially.
You might find a place that does cashback with contactless mobile payment but I know some places don’t allow that.
Is cashback via contactless allowed? I’ve never seen it.
Neither have I but you never know, I don’t know if there’s a technical reason it can’t happen or just policy of stores.
I wouldn’t know the in or out of it but I guess it comes down to security verification forcing the pin for cash withdrawals/cashback.
I guess your only option would be transfer money to another account and withdraw cash from there. Or ask for some cash off a trusted friend/relative and transfer the amount to their account.
NatWest/RBS is the only bank I know of that has an easy way to withdraw cash without the card, with their Get Cash feature. But that only works at NatWest and Tesco ATMs so Monzo would never be able to support that (and to be fair, none of the other legacy banks with ATMs at their branches have implemented it either that I’m aware of). I think Barclays had contactless ATMs somewhere, or planned to at least.
Santander supports contactless ATMs aswell but not sure about Apple Pay/mobile wallet
mobile wallet supported all over mainland europe though
I’ve done it quite often with no issues. Even on credit cards.
I can at Tesco’s..
I think I’ve done this once to try it for fun, not really ever needing cash.
I might use it next time as I never carry a wallet and cards.
Many ATM’s in Europe offer contactless which I prefer as I’m always terrified the machine will eat my card if I insert it
Well, contactless + pin is a thing too, although for some reason not something the uk does much, and when a pin is needed it defaults to chip and pin
