Google Stadia šŸŽ®

No email here… Since I bought the stadia kit from the google store it’s not like they don’t know about me.

They sent an email out just telling people the process has started, it’ll take them a while to get around to everyone. I’m sure if I go to Twitter they’ll be loads of begs moaning they can’t see a payment.

Mine is to a closed account so I’ll have to follow the process when they finally email me to say it’s been sent.

The actual card doesn’t matter, if the account is open it will just go back to it.

If the account is closed one of two things will happen:

  1. The card company will accept it and try and get in touch with you to return it or
  2. (more likely) the refund will be rejected and Google will get in touch to pay by cheque/bank transfer / some other payment method

The email literally tells you ā€˜it is going to take absolutely ages to refund everyone, so please be patient and do not bother support as they cannot expedite anything’, so I’m fully expecting it to be weeks if not months before I get my money back myself.

The scale of what they’re doing seems quite unprecedented. Unless anyone knows of any previous instance where a company has said ā€œwere shutting down a product, so we’re going to refund every customer. Ever.ā€?

They’ve taken the high ground. Shutting down a service where dedicated hardware (which people purchased) and paid-for games (which people purchased) which only run on the platform they’re shutting down means an absolute guaranteed class-action lawsuit if they did otherwise.

It’s less expensive to refund everyone for hardware/game purchases than it is to be dragged through another court case with a potentially massive hit at the end of it.

I’m sad to see Stadia go. But I feel like I’ve been treated fairly at the end, so there’s no bitter taste left. Gonna slam Cyberpunk 2077 over the Xmas break one more time tho…

They’ll probably eventually send you a cheque

I’ve had all my money back now from the play store and there were no problems with refunding to my cancelled virtual cards :+1:

Still not heard anything… wonder when it’s time to start chasing. It’s only Ā£20 (well Ā£70 with a Ā£50 off offer) but… hey they offered.

Stadia Refunds

Starting November 9, 2022, Stadia will attempt to automatically process refunds for all purchases of games, add-on content and subscriptions fees other than Stadia Pro made through the Stadia Store. We ask for your patience as we work through each transaction and ask that you refrain from contacting Customer Support as they will not be able to expedite your refund during this time. We still expect the majority of refunds to be processed by January 18th, 2023.

Didn’t know they’d made a FAQ… I’m getting all my info from this forum!

I’m waiting for a Ā£160 refund (Ā£120 founders edition controller from 2019 and Ā£40 for Cyberpunk 2077/Controller offer in 2020) - It’ll come. Patience. Like a :ninja:

I bought a controller second hand because I wasn’t sure if I’d like it so the lucky bugger is going to get paid twice

Not received a refund on my games either.

Got my first refund today. From my sample size of one, I confidently* predict they are refunding payments in the order most recent to oldest.

*This is 100% tongue in cheek, I don’t actually have the confidence of a Musk.

I think you’re right. I’ve not had any refunds yet and all my purchases were in 2019, apart from buying Cyberpunk 2077 at the end of 2020

Had a refund from a purchase of a game back in December 2020, I bought Borderlands 3 for the grand total of £1.19, should of been £80 but it was on offer :joy:

Me too! All pretty seamless.

Just got an email about my refund for my one and only purchase of £5.99.
