Google Pixel Discussion

Just get the phone and get stuck in, you’ll love it  :android:

It’s definitely slowly coming. I got an email last week saying that my YouTube Premium (Argentina) would be ending in a month as they do not think I am in the country.

So I wouldn’t bet on that always being there as an option.

  1. I use Chrome on all devices so for me it’s the best to use on my Pixel but I’ve read Firefox is good. Has the ability to use add-ons.

  2. I use NextDNS. Really easy to set up. You can use an app but the recommended way is to set up an account on their website and then paste the generated URL into the Android Private DNS settings. With this I don’t see ads in any browser or any app that has ads in them. Those in feed ads in apps like Instagram won’t be blocked though.

You can use NextDNS on any device.

  1. Pay for YouTube Premium or download YouTube Vanced.

  2. I use Bitwarden. It’s open source and strongly recommended. The free plan does everything I need.

To be fair when my time comes I’ll just pay the £19.99 for family, it’s not much between the 2 of us, my wife exclusively watches YouTube on our TV so it’s worth it for her alone, plus we both use YouTube Music.

I’m torn. I haven’t had adverts on YouTube for ages and I’m used to it now.

But I think it’s outrageously priced in the UK.

It’s expensive compared to other countries for sure, I think the £10ish for 2 of us is fine though. Would you be buying individual membership? Isn’t that like £15? So obviously not as good value.

It would be yes. The fiancé doesn’t care about the adverts, so even if we halved it, it would be him paying £10 vs £0 now.

Ah that sucks but I get it lol, I personally couldn’t go back to watching adverts, especially with how many they can have per video now.

Do you pay for spotify or anything for music? It’s not so bad if you use YouTube music as well.

We have an AppleOne subscription so wouldn’t need any other music. It’s just something I’ll have to suck up!

Bugger, so can’t really justify it by cancelling your music sub lol. If you end up paying full price but watch a lot of YouTube I think you’d find it worth it still.

Apparently more plans are coming, I’m hoping it’ll include a more basic/cheaper one just to block ads

You could just get an individual account in that case, reduces the cost to £12.99.

I’m the same, Apple One isn’t getting cancelled. If I then also pay for Google One, hell will freeze over before I pay for YouTube premium.

I find YouTube music the poorest of the music services unless you want to watch music videos.

If they split it and made YouTube premium family cheaper I would consider it but no one in my family watches music videos other than the rare time.

I just play music as I would on any music app, never watched a single music video on it.

Music discovery is still peak on Spotify but Apple Music is getting a lot better.
YouTube music would be okay if I only played the same songs I guess but they all lose to apple on sound quality with included lossless.

I just listen to 80s music so not really much discovery left. I’m not an audiophile so however it sounds out of my Google Home speakers, earbuds and my car is good enough for me.

Yeah the home speakers are pretty trash (the max was decent enough though but killedbygoogle)

It does depend a bit on the music style but the other perk of atmos music can sound brilliant if it’s mastered for it.

I am a very very casual music fan so anything more than what I have set up now isn’t worth time and effort for me lol.

Obviously I can appreciate music sounds better on other devices etc though

It does mean at least you are very portable when it comes to moving service though.

I listen to the discovery algorithm playlists a lot for newer music and I do actually like spotifys voice generated dj as well, the bits of voice are a nice touch.
