Google Pixel Discussion

Don’t ignore, for context, that Pixel growth is the same as iPhone in percentage = 1%

But 1% growth for Pixels in numbers, when compared to 1% growth of iPhones in numbers is absof***inglutely huge

EDIT: and just US

I will probably stick with Pixel 8 Pro for another year, last time I skipped a generation was Pixel 5.

Nothing about the 9 excited me this time round

I wonder how many other people received this email today?

Probably count them on one hand. I feel special now. I now have both a Plushie and an update-now-you-dinosaur email.

So anyway, I recently ditched my Nexus 6 running :android: 7 (Nougat) for teardowns after Monzo updated the minimum OS to :android: 8 (Oreo). I’m now using a Pixel 2XL using :android: 11 (Red Velvet Cake) for teardowns which will last another good few years until Monzo only support :android: 12 (Snow Cone) and above.

Anyone fancy something sweet?

Rumours seem to say RIP Pixel tablet again:

This is the problem I find with Google, they dont really stick at things for long enough, I think it caused issues with Stadia as people said before it came out, google will get bored and kill it so they were not buying it and so it became a self fullfilling profecy.

I expected them to learn a bit from the Pixel phones as they stuck with them even though sales were not great for ages and they are now becoming slightly more mainstream.

I believe it’s the development of the one after next, so the Pixel Tablet 3.

That’s what I heard originally but android authority (linked in the article) says they have killed the 2 although they think a 3 might come?

The reason they lost money on the Pixel tablet was because of silly decision to only sell bundled with a dock at the start (forcing many to decide whether or not to pay a higher price for a tablet with an accessory they don’t care about). Would have done better if it would have been possible to buy as a standalone tablet from the start.

Also wonder if reported cancellation of Pixel Tablet 2 is related to recent rumours that there might be an Android-powered Pixel laptop in the works. If true it perhaps makes sense to wait until new productivity features are available (presumably needed for laptop) before releasing next Pixel Tablet.

Complete shocker… said no one!

Honesltly, the real surprise is that they’ve stuck with Pixel phones for 9 generations.

For all of Apple’s many faults, being able to rely on them to commit to their hardware isn’t one.

They should offer a version with cellular, I think they are in the sweet spot between the Samsung tablet A and S range.

I also love my Pixel Tablet and have a similar usage.

I love that it takes pride of place in my living room as a Home Display when not ‘in use’, while my partners Honor tablet is slid under the couch gathering dust.

Good news for Pixel 6 and 7 series, and Fold owners…

Have you bought a case or anything for it? I’m still using it naked :face_with_peeking_eye:.

I’m looking at the official kick-stand style case with the metal ring on the back but it’s quite expensive.

I’m going for this, against my better judgement.

I’m in. Just got the invite to join the Discord Server.

If you have a pixel 4a Google are releasing an urgent out of band update for some batches for the batteries, it reduces the capacity and charge rate, so reading between the lines it’s a safety risk, so check for pending updates if you have one.

You can get money instead of a free battery replacement.

Some details here
Interesting that the devs personal username is in the release indicating it was a rush job from their computer and not the usual build process

The March Pixel drop is out now.

Not pixel related I know, but for those that bought the TV streamer, BBC iPlayer is now available for it.

I’ve had a version sideloaded for months on my Streamer. Interesting to see that when I turned it on this morning it had already updated to the Play Store version without me doing anything.

Much better version, and now has UHD. Happy chap!

This thread would probably be more interesting if it was a general Google Products thread anyway. There is a general Apple Products thread after all.
