Very much agree. There are a few I don’t think will make it out of 2024, and then after a steady consolidation.
Plus to the point of the article - a paradigm shift is occurring in how larger more established banks see the world of FinTech.
Previously: Legacy bank alongside VC and Crowdfunding backing development of New Fintech
Now: Legacy Bank actively competing against New Fintech and acquiring/competing v funding
I think NatWest with their app is pretty much there with some fintechs, it opens as fast as Chase, could be layed out a little better but it seems like the best highstreet app by far to me
I agree but that’s different to what I’m saying. An example would be HSBC and Zing, previously they’d have supported a third party company, now they basically set their own up. Principally the exact same product as their in-house Global Money account.
The App becoming increasingly FinTech is a valid, but separate event.
Well, there was always Bö (or whatever stupid accent that was) and Chase. I think it’s fair to say legacy banks took and still take different approaches, from setting up their own rivals (Bõ/Natwest), to investing in others (HSBC/Monese), to just completely ignoring rival start up banks (Barclays).
Zing should’ve been merged into HSBC as one product not two.
I have three; they changed one because of strong customer authentication. One removed the signature strip and the other was the original card when I signed up.
I really liked Bó’s app’s simplicity, how clean, basic it was and that it was backed by a bigger bank.
I would if they wasn’t all different.
it’s a shame it never got to be in my Google Wallet, I did like Bó’s design.
I’ll check when I’m home later, I’m pretty sure there was a change, but can’t remember what. I haven’t sifted through my old cards in a while.
I’d completely forgotten about Bö! Had (being the operative word @ndrw) the card and the account, couldn’t really do anything with it, binned it off before they did.
Let’s face it, a bank called Body Odour was doomed from the start.
Sorry, yes I remember Bő clearly now
I’m still slightly confused by who is Zing meant to be competing with …
Don’t know if this is good or bad!
100% needed as likely most scams initiate or complete off the back of social media.
Saw this one, pretty crazy wish we had more details. From the sound of it they met and “spent some time” so what’s he saying? It was too much or they didn’t do X that I asked? Bold to have this published in the news lol
£8000 sounds like an awful lot of escorting ‘duties’ to me!
Or an hour of something REALLY weird.
