I have Sky 300 down 50 up and it’s been perfect for everything I do.
My Cityfibre line finally went in this week. I got it installed via Andrews & Arnold because I thought their nerds would be able to deal with any problems with the installation, but I’m probably going to switch to someone a wee bit cheaper but still techie-friendly (Zen or iD) in a few months.
And somehow I’m paying £77 for 280Mbps lol. I have no alternative providers that offer anything more than 67Mbps though.
That’s a crazy price! Who are you with?
I get better than 67mbps with 5G which is currently my home broadband setup and it’s way cheaper than what you’re paying.
BT, been with them for the last 10 years so just goes up every year.
It must be through your phone line at that speed. Have you looked at alternative ways of delivering your broadband?
Unfortunately continual price increases is how these types of businesses operate, similar to automatic renewal of your car insurance. If you shop around a little you can usually do better.
It is yeah, only fibre to the cabinet I believe not the property. Have checked other providers but we only have Openreach in the area so it’s all the standard ISPs offering the same ~67Mbps speed. Even BT can only offer that as a new plan now. 4G and 5G is also pretty abysmal here too. So it is what it is. Speed is fine but it is expensive.
Starlink lite (250mbps download) = £55 per month
Starlink (400+ mbps download) = £75 per month
It (lite) now surpasses my current package with Sky: 150mbps FTTP for £49. The Starlink upload speed is now at a level of Sky’s 150mbps FTTP plan of 30mbps+ too.
If I wasn’t so into Sky’s (faultless and ever-so-reliable) service, from my experience, I’d be jumping to Starlink at this point. Still tempted.
What I didn’t mention there was that our Sky broadband contract ended a month ago so we can exit whenever but are currently paying over the odds coz of that. Just picking the perfect time to call Sky and say “I’m off” when I have a viable alternative - to see what Sky comes back with.
January 19th is the target date to call. “How does it feel…” ![]()
I only get 54Mbps
£25 per month. Only FTTC for me ![]()
900 up/down here. TalkTalk £28/m
about the same where I am, but we do now have full fibre available - but to be honest fttc 55mb does everything I need and is cheaper, so have no real incentive to change?
I’m only OpenReach for now otherwise I’d have been paying the same price for gig speeds ![]()
Ah, CommunityFibre are pretty decent. Usually up for a haggle too.
I managed to get 6 months free out of them coz they kept ‘messing’ the install up ![]()
They made a bit of a mess of my front wall when they installed - but the manager of the installation team made three return visits to patch it up (and he did a good job of it too!)
Cityfibre also made a bit of a mess when they were here last week, at the cable entry point above the front door - but where nobody’s ever going to look, because it’s behind the storm door. They didn’t mention it at the time, but half an hour after the installers left, the office called to offer a £70 cash settlement for the damage, which was a bit of a surprise all round.
6 months free, bet you could’ve stretched that to 12 ![]()
I think renewal is up soon, might try for 12 or leave but they so cheap I doubt they will play ball.
