Flagify

The Spanish flag :es: itself is also a big topic of controversy. Our current flag derives from Francoist Spain’s flag. After 40 years of hardcore nationalism, being proud of your country and waving flags is something that doesn’t just happen (Germans might understand this). The Spanish flag reminds many people of the fascist dictatorship and therefore the only people waving it proudly are usually right-wingers. Of course this “taboo” only applies to everyday life, waving the flag during international football matches and such are different things entirely.

Here’s an interesting article about the Republican, the Francoist and the current flag! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Spain

I liked the idea but after hearing about the many political & other issues around it (its been interesting to learn) I think it’s best not, unless it came be implemented in a way mentioned above using MasterCard.

Why is this feature actually needed though? Are the vast amount of current Monzo users actually using card in a range of countries enough to make it worth dedicating development time to an icon?

I’d just rather they make transaction information better.

Monzo already uses flags in notifications

I wait for some Scots to complain here

That’s me. What would you like me to complain about?

Imagine all flags were banned. Them someone waves a piece of cloth in the air. Is it a flag?

Can anyone answer this without linking to or quoting from a website?

Yes it is

That could mess up the transaction list. I’ve always found it very clear because it shows the cost of the transaction in that country’s currency. So it’s easy to see which transactions have been made in which countries.

About not getting a Scottish flag when buying something in Scotland?

I heard there are some currencies that cover multiple countries, though

Haha, that is true. We just need to be careful about not making the transaction list messy. It’s already possibly going to have a bit more detail on each transaction when they get rid of the redundant Coin Jar notifications (although those mockups looked great). I guess for an intrusive feature like this (flags would be intrusive, to me), it might be useful if those of us who have no need for it could turn it off. After all, one can search their transaction list for location if they’d like to see all the transactions in a particular country.
