🚫 Fitbit Pay

What has changed for Monzo in Googles purchase of Fitbit? What incentive has Monzo to expand to Fitbit Pay when all signs point the other way?

Should Google not decide to replace Fitbit Pay with a system Monzo already supports, Google’s purchase would surely add value to the service down the line with whatever products they come up with? Hopefully Google does just implement Google Pay on existing devices but this may be a possible backup, at the least it is more likely than it was before imo

Maybe, maybe not. Android Wear and Google’s wearables efforts to date have not been particularly successful. I still think there’s a long way to go before supporting Fitbit Pay makes financial sense for Monzo. I imagine Samsung Pay would make a lot more sense if they were to add another payment system.

PS Forgot to say, welcome to the community! Sorry if I’m coming across as overly negative, just don’t want to give you false hope. (Based on my observation of Monzo’s responses over the years to requests like these.)

I’ve been holding off getting a smartwatch for ages, waiting for a worthy Google competitor to the Apple Watch.

I’m quite excited by this merger, hopefully they can finally nail it!

Same here @welshguy99 , Samsung’s attempts haven’t been good enough on the exercise front to be considered but Google + Fitbit has to come up with some good ideas! Hopefully they use the Fitbit Charge 4 as a testing ground and I reap the benefits of it

It’s very unlikely that we will implement Fitbit Pay now or ever. In the short term, we won’t have the additional resources to build it, nor is it clear that there is a significant demand for it.

In the long term it’s very likely Google will shutter it in favor of Google Pay.

It was so niche, I couldn’t see the point of it. Samsung Pay however…

Hey there,

Unsure if this is the right place to post, but I have just got the latest fitbit and would love to be able to use it to pay for things on the go. Unfortunately, neither of my banks are connected with Fitbit, and this to me seems to be a huge gap that’s missing for monzo.

Does anyone else wish to see Monzo as one of the available bank/cards to use with their fitbit?

How would one go about petitioning for this to happen? Who do we contact in order to find out how come Monzo isn’t one of Fitbit’s UK banks/card companies that participates in Watch Contactless payments?

Any ideas on when it might become available?

Cheers.

There’s a post here about it for you to use :grinning:

One work around is get curve and connect it to monzo as curve is on Fitbit pay.

Unfortunately we won’t be adding Fitbit support in the near future… I recommend the Curve suggestion above :point_up_2:

Starling are also connected to fitbit, if you’d prefer to have a bank with a direct connection.

Okay. Could you give a reason as to why not please? Just curious. Thank you.

Because it’s not worth the time for so few customers who will use it.

If Google are allowed to get their hands onto it then no doubt in the future it will change over to Google Pay

My guess is that it’s similar reasoning as to why there’s no Samsung Pay, cheque imaging, incoming international transfers, only a clunky outgoing international transfer system. Because Monzo are getting along quite nicely without it, and they’d rather spend time and effort on income generating activities.

We have a lot of other priorities to tackle right now… Some of it is regulatory requirements, scalability improvements, reducing fraud etc… And obviously making profit.

As much as customer-facing features are the nicest to talk about, there is a surprising amount that people don’t see, but is really important for us to deal with

I have a Versa 2 on my wrist every second of my day. I want this feature out as much as all of you. Just hold on tight!

It would be nice to have interns to work on Garmin pay, Fitbit pay.

Samsung pay is interesting - all Samsung phones support Google pay thus are covered. I think it is only their watches that only do Samsung pay. And now they did ā€œSamsung pay cardā€ which is curve one it means one kind of don’t need direct Samsung pay support.

Is Fitbit Pay now going to disappear, with Google Pay taking over?:
