First Direct Chat

Is this supposed to eventually do more than just tell me what spending & insights are? Currently I have to click on the tiny blue text to see things, but nothing is there either since they haven’t cleared.

Just wondering if that eventually starts showing insights

Android takes you to another page that tells you a little more about what each one does.

Oh strange. I’m hoping that over time more stuff happens here as right now it’s taking an awful lot of space up to do not a lot.

Also, unrelated but one of my transactions which is still pending has gone from having the right town as its reference to one miles away.

Hope they don’t bring in maps if this is the case since you have to call to correct :joy:

Yes, mine has yet to arrive but the Apple Pay one looks super nice and I never really use anything else anyway.

There was talk of First Direct making a foray into new product areas, either directly or via a marketplace. Likely to include investment products, SIPPs and the like, but nothing seems to have come of this.

Did I miss something?

fd also need to move away from their app security it is a bit of a nightmare with multiple passwords, some you don’t use for months/years. Moving the app from one phone to another is a nightmare. I know a few people who have left because of this.

I suspect this will be like a lot of FD, aspirations that come to nothing.

But who knows, maybe I’ll be wrong

Ok so it’s as I suspected. You have to wait for it to clear before it shows up which is a little annoying.

Also the transaction screen is really minimal, I was expecting it to be but I think it goes too far.

No dates which is fully odd. I would’ve thought at least you would’ve got that.

Interestingly you get merchant logos in insights but not in the transaction screen even though there’s room for it.

Perhaps they are “coming soon”

Definitely needs some work but it’s a start.

I think the insights are actually great. They do what they need. Just wish transactions would at least show in there even while pending.

Otherwise it’s proving to be a nice “reset” in terms of minimalist data and a focus on the basics.

Actually I think I’ve come up with a slight annoyance which will change how I’ll use FD.

Essentially I used to have a pot with my budget in, transfer it all across and pull stuff back in over time.

I figured I could do this with FD. Leave it all in a 1.4% account and pull in/out as needed. I know that sounds complicated but it’s how I work.

Thing is I’ve noticed with insights none of the category’s are excluded. Eg. Transfers.

So when I put money in, it says I’ve spend it even though I haven’t. Hope they’ll fix that

Ah yeah. You can’t exclude just yet. Maybe feed it back to them via chat. The team is generally quite helpful though if you use dark mode on your phone, I noticed the typing words are white among with white background until it’s sent which is annoying. Dark mode (basically flip it all) would be lovely in that app.

I might do that. I did try and feedback via fDesign (which I had thought they shut down but it appears not) and was told, you can’t feedback app ideas via messaging there. :man_facepalming:t2:

FD rarely do anything if you provide feedback. It goes into a big black hole and is then forgotten. They just do what they want over however long it takes eg notifications which have been on the radar for years

Now, if only there was a bank that did that

Well true. I’ve since found that, weirdly the first transfer on opening counts as a funds transfer so it goes against spending.

But each subsequent transfer goes down as internal transfer meaning it doesn’t. So that suits me.

I’d take 1.4% easy access and an app where all
features are available for free any day

No chance I would.

I am getting 2.75%, 3.00%, 5.00%, and 5.12% on my savings

As well as 2x monthly savers @ 4.50% and one at 5.25%

Sorry, I should’ve been more specific - I was specifically digging at the fact Monzo’s interest rate hasn’t changed (at all) in years. For Plus or premium.

As you, correctly, note, I wouldn’t put my main savings in that rate, hence why I have Barclays too

So found that you can use 3D Touch in app by holding down on the account. Do any other banks do that.

Oh wow, didn’t know that. Several banks have actions from the app icon on the home screen, but not seen this before.

I swear 3D/Force Touch is such an under-appreciated and under-used iOS feature. The problem is half the time you don’t know the feature is used, as evidenced here…
