Express Transit Cards in iOS 12.3

Working on National rail at Cannon Street and Dartford

Just tried it on Thames Clipper, works perfectly!

Weirdly it has stopped working for me when I was travelling on the Northern line yesterday.

Yep if you’re switching between card types, (physical / apple pay / apple pay on a watch) do it on a Monday

Express Transit won’t interfere with what card TFL register, but switching devices or cards will.

Looks like express transit for TFL has now officially been rolled out and added to the Apple support page

Just received an email from Apple, confirming that this is live across TFL:

Good to see it’s official

This also solves my biggest issue with Apple pay for my tube travel:

How much did Starling pay for this plug?

Brilliant! Now let me attach my railcard!

Monzo front and centre here:

Probably nothing. As any app developer will tell you, Apple chooses who they feature and rotate around whenever there’s a new campaign. :slightly_smiling_face:

To be fair the page does have Natwest, HSBC, Barclays and Amex as well as Starling and Monzo so they’re probably trying to feature all the banks involved so almost anyone who looks at the page has some brand recognition.
I wonder which banks get most use on TFL. I don’t suppose TFL (or any retailer) knows which bank a card is with, their processor just send the transaction to the card networks right?

They can infer it by the first six to eight digits of the card number (but it’s not perfect). That’s how the transaction gets correctly routed to the network, then on to the correct issuer.

My assumption would be Lloyd’s Banking Group‘s as they have more customers than anyone else.

Don’t tokenised cards have a completely different BIN? Actually, what does the BIN for tokenised cards show the bank as…?

In my experience from using Apple Pay, it’s a different BIN but its still the bank’s (at least it is with Barclays)

Just tried it out. A lot quicker as you don’t even have to wake your phone up
