That’s your motto in life! :joy:

Do all legacies operate this policy ? It sounds like discrimination to me… So you’re allowed as many bank accounts as you wish if you have good credit record, but if its average or low then you can only have one ?!

Basic accounts are only available to customers who do not qualify for other current accounts or where their personal circumstances make it difficult to manage their finances or who are experiencing financial difficulties.

Homeless are also allowed to open basic accounts providing they are introduced by a qualified person who is known to the bank.

I don’t believe it’s restricted to one account though depends on the banks qualifying criterias

I’m surprised as to why you want a basic bank account so much. Why can’t you just go into any high-street bank and ask for a standard account? If your credit is bad they may not give you an overdraft but otherwise it’s fine. I mean even with my horrendous credit I can walk into any high-street branch and get a current account in 30 minutes or so (as long as I go through all their nonsense of “no printed bank statements”, etc).

If you really want legacy rust try Nationwide. They’re awful and will charge rob you of 12£ if you ever get a direct debit declined, but if that’s what you are looking for then they are a good option. :+1:

Your first use of legacy rust in 11 days! Well done!

You’re probably better off waiting for Direct Debits from Pots which should come in the future

or trying to use the summary screen more as this allows you to see what you have left for spend after it’s worked out how much each of your Direct Debits will be that month.

I misworded my posts, I do already have a Basic Current Account with Barclays, just want to make sure nothing will happen if i continue to use both Monzo and Barclays

Yeah monzo is flawless i’ll give you that. It’s just I prefer to use my Barclays Debit card for online transaction as peace of mind ( because i use it as a top-up prepaid style )

It also helps me balance things, one account for spending in shops and for my money, then one for online transactions and direct debits

I know people were talking about credit scores earlier and Monzo just posted this

I think if you use only one account you could benefit from more clarity about where your money goes.

Stick with Monzo as the main account and use it for everything, including online purchases. Monzo, together with Mastercard will have your back in the unlikely event of having your card cloned or compromised online.

Keep your Barclays account open though, it could be useful for certain things. If Barclays decide to close it, don’t look back and open another one with Starling. :relieved:

It occurs to me you could use Monzo as your bank account, and take out an actual pre–paid card for the online peace-of-mind use, taking the role that the Monzo pre-paid card fulfilled.

Something like TransferWise borderless account might work, they have great customer service. Then you wouldn’t have to worry that Barclays will suddenly close you down when they discover you also have a Monzo account.

Transferwise don’t carry out credit checks either. You will only have to verify your identity with DL or passport. This set up could actually work well for you.:grinning:

Good advice thanks.
I will always use Monzo as my main, but if Barclays decide against me having an account is Starling straightforward like monzo to join ?

I’ve heard on another forum that once the account has been created ( barclays ) there’s no reason for them to close it

Starling is 5 minutes to join and a few days to receive your card.

Nice one guys thanks.
Like i said i will use monzo for 90% of stuff, but I like to use a prepay method when shopping online for security if that makes sense. ( not linking my Monzo with all my money to anywhere online other than paypal )

Starling carry out identity check and quotation check. If you are given overdraft, you don’t have to accept it and this way you will not have credit check which could be seen by other lenders recorded on your file. It should be pretty much straightforward

Use it for online shopping and freeze the card from the app when you are done. You will be protected quite well :slightly_smiling_face:

I have a valid UK passport so thats no problem.
When you say Quotation check do you mean a soft check like Monzo do ?

I would not be interested in an overdraft, i live by the saying " If you ain’t got it, don’t spend it "

I’m sure barclays will be fine but just good to have reassurance incase they get funny with me having another account
