Do You Have More Than One Bank Account?

No idea. But if you’re using 1 account for spends and another for bills, that could be picked up with the bank transfers :woman_shrugging:
I might be giving legacy bank systems too much credit there though

Hmmm - But I wouldn’t have thought they would be able to tell when opening a new account?

I don’t see anything in their T’s and C’s about not having another account?

Fair enough.
If i use Monzo to get my credit score up, would there be a chance that a legacy bank could offer me a full current account in future ?

I can’t see it either, it was there a few months ago, maybe they have changed policy im not sure

Have a chat with them - I’d be amazed if that was their policy.

Will do. Doesn’t say anything about it here either…

I don’t see why not, it’s all about developing your credit rating.

From their Ts&Cs here – p39:

The Barclays Basic Current Account is a basic account that offers no-frills banking for customers who may not be able to open a regular current account. You can qualify for this account if you don’t qualify for one of our other accounts and/or you don’t have an existing bank current account in the UK.

It’s ambiguous (of course it is) and the and/or doesn’t make any sense (is it and or is it or?!) but it could be read that they would close your basic account if they worked out you have another bank account, as you no longer ‘qualify’ for it.

Do you use overdraft with Monzo? I am not sure if by just having current account and not borrowing and repaying, you will build up good credit history. Please, correct me if I am wrong about it

Getting a credit card for those with average or minimal credit record would help you for sure. But if you have trouble controlling your spending, I would say, don’t do it. :exploding_head:

My score is 660 probably because i used to take out loans when i was young

I think credit rating agencies make up scores :joy:

But if you borrow responsibly and pay back you will have good credit record in short time

I don’t use overdrafts or loans ever any more.

Do you have a Credit Card? They can sometimes be a good way to increase your rating if you pay them back in full each month

EDIT due to posts below: It’s wise to get proper advise from a professional first though

I did have an RBS credit card yes, but my advocate used to look after the repayments

Also says regarding the account

If this happens, and you remain eligible to hold an account or receive
services from us, we may try to help you find an alternative account or
service which will meet your needs, so that you can continue to bank
with us.

I know we’re all trying to help but I think @Venomx would be best served by advice from the CAB or similar rather then random squirts of info on a forum.

Thats fair enough, its just a ball ache getting in touch with the banks due to massive waiting times, i have tweeted them though !

I like to get a consensus on things from other people like myself who use the banks

That’s fair enough, I just think you’re in an unusual situation and it’s best to sit down with a professional.

Thanks.
It’s necessary for me to have another account incase i have cash and want to send it to monzo

Can’t you just spend the cash, or give to a friend in exchange of a Faster Payment?

Also I do believe Starling Bank accepts cash deposits in Natwest branches so you could look into them instead of going back to legacy rust.

Regarding getting your credit score back up, I suggest you read the second part of my post here, especially the part about credit card usage and obtaining copies of your report from the main CRAs.
