My previous online bank had a feature that if there were insufficient funds in your current account - a direct debit wouldn’t automatically decline. It would keep trying to process the DD until 4.30pm - and a notification via app and email was sent to let you know - providing time to move funds about to cover the DD - and if this didn’t happen by 4.30pm then it would decline as normal.

I think it’s 2:30 at Monzo, and you can retry once you’ve added funds.
