I currently have a Monzo card and have property in Spain. Does anybody know if there are any issues with setting up direct debits on the card to pay spanish utility companies etc.

If the company will take Direct Debits in GBP with the UK DD system (there might be expat companies who specialise in this). Otherwise, the answer is no. I believe Transferwise just launched Euro DDs.
