I do at times think Monzo would have saved themselves flack if they just said ‘we don’t do cash or cheques’. So many people don’t use the account like a current account, so in turn those sort of over the counter services just aren’t there?
It’s like that for me with Revolut (insert NOT A BANK DISCLAIMER) , I don’t get paid in there & I limit using it for certain purposes, so frankly I don’t expect to be using it to pay in cash & cheques. Perhaps they have the better idea?
People can still deal with cash & cheques and use Monzo as their sole current account though, just get a savings account with a Lloyd’s or somewhere that has a high coverage of branches and bobs your uncle, can still do all of your ‘current’ banking with Monzo
From a logical point of view, they are superior I think.
There’s more branches, basically every local shop does it and they have far better opening hours, less queues and aren’t closing down at the rate of a post office. So I can see how it was appealing to Monzo from the beginning. They just didn’t (and couldn’t) know that the staff at the end point wouldn’t be up to standard.
From the threads on here before, some people much prefer using PayPoint as it doesn’t suit them trying to get to a post office.
The big problem is that the staff who work in these places aren’t trained like Post Office staff. If PayPoint worked every time like the Post Office does, then it would be a far better option.
Maybe people need to complain to PayPoint in the same way that people report merchants for falling foul of the Mastercard rules etc.
I love that you think a customer turning up to a shop at midnight when they’re closed, and a customer turning up in the middle of the day only to encounter incompetent staff who can’t handle their request, are even vaguely equivalent situations.
Because neither of which are the fault of Monzo/“Nike”, and I was just correcting that posters really strange analogy.
I think your desperation to criticise is utterly ridiculous.

I doubt many people will complain to PayPoint, as Monzo customers don’t have a commercial relationship with PayPoint.
I’d hope that Monzo customers who have issues with depositing cash at PayPoint merchants would be encouraged to report them to Monzo. I’d expect PayPoint would take more notice if Monzo were raising problems, given that Monzo is the customer.
Not a bank obviously but Monese do offer both as options, with eye watering charges for both. I didn’t think it was possible to make Monzo look like good value, but as long as you only look at these in isolation, there you go Monese have managed it…
Whilst this is no help I have to say I have NEVER had any issues paying cash into my account! Perhaps luck or whatever and as for the £1 charge I’m fine with it. It would cost me more than that to pay in cash at another location. I’m not saying it’s perfect and I hear what people say about their issues but speaking personally I’m good with it .
Just an observation and not intended to be critical of anyone.
From the Monzo accounts screen: add money, cash, find PayPoints near you
They’re all around me.
I used it once and thought it was pretty good. Then returned to the same place a couple of months later and they couldn’t make it work. I’ve never been back.
On paper, it’s a fairly good solution (allowing for the low limits and costs). In practice, PayPoint is a hopeless network and Monzo should never have associated themselves with PayPoint.
The only other thing I can think of is it’s like merchant data. It seems like a large issue if you look on here but to the wider customer base perhaps it’s not that bad?
I like to think that if it was it would have been given a high priority and addressed by now - especially with the current drive for profitability.
Every shop for the nearest 10 miles is payzone near me out in the sticks.
Some even use the payzone machine to also process debit/credit cards.
I use starling to pay in cash at the post office anyway. (ironically the post office run payzones bill pay and phone top up services with payzone now just being a barclaycard reseller in the card processing business)
