Cruises have some specific risks that most travel insurance policies will not cover. We’ve had the same issue with our HSBC Premier included policy. It doesn’t cover those extra risks.
You may arrive at a port but miss your departure, a cruise-specific policy will pay for you to travel to the next port of call and re-join your cruise. Many policies will only pay for you to get home, and won’t allow you to re-join your cruise.
It’s very common to miss a departure, especially on excursions. Some ships will wait for you (especially if you’ve booked the excursion through them), others will just leave on-time and expect you to meet them at the next port.
Staysure are a good option for cruise-specific cover, we’ve found.
Which cruise line are you going with? It’s a brilliant type of holiday. Virgin Voyages are good (adults only).
