COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Singling out groups of people with armbands hasn’t gone well in the past…

I’m ā€˜vulnerable’ but no way in hell I’d go near that thing.

I don’t know if anyone has scrolled far enough down to the photo of Mr Collingwood… But I did enjoy doing so…

Yes, each to their own but it’s an unusual facial hair decision

Seems none of the papers were kind to Johnson on his freedom day today, even the most pro Tory rags, and Starmer is finally going on a full frontal assault on Johnson’s pandemic record.

I feel this is finally some long term damage for the Teflon Tory leadership. Where do they even go from here?

It’s an interesting compromise when someone wants facial hair but it’s too hot for facial hair

Jesus. I’m no expert but I feel sure that’s some law broken there.

Tells you a lot about the kind of people that put these things up really.

In general, it’s really good to see the overall case rate falling sharply again. It does seem to fall dramatically when the schools are out. Hopefully hospital numbers are at or nearing their peak too and we are back in control (somehow).

Time will tell. It’s possible the fall is due to:

  • The European Cup finishing (so no super spreading events in stadiums)
  • Schools breaking for summer (so not currently being given the opportunity to run rampant through kids)

The actual risk of spread could still be at dangerous levels, meaning that when schools and back in and the football season restarts, that line will go up again.

Or maybe we have crossed the magic line to mass vaccination and something resembling herd immunity - but it’s really too early to tell.

Personally I feel it’s schools. Kids are just large walking germ factories really! And not like you can get four year olds to socially distance.

I doubt this drop is due to the ā€˜magic line’ being passed but there’s a good chance it will be passed by the time schools reconvene.

I think this is key - use the summer time to really boost the vaccinations and get as many people prepared for the autumn and winter. The calm before the storm, so to speak.

Bear in mind that we’re seeing the rate of positive tests fall rather than some intrinsic measure of actual infection.

I make 5e distinction only because the other attribute of schools being out for summer is that the twice weekly tests are no longer being done by a whole generation which will impact the resulting numbers.

I personally doubt that the change is all down to that but it’s another influencing factor.

Apparently it was more the parties everyone had and inviting friends over that caused the problems, not the people that actually attended.

Anyone in Northern Ireland, make sure you’ve signed up to the new electoral roll to get your covid prepaid card

Just a thought, but why are the Gov planning on bribing the youngsters with free fast food and Ubers to get them to get jabbed???

Because they want to increase uptake.

But surely bribery isn’t the way to go.
I just can’t see it sitting well with those who have already been jabbed, seeing others being rewarded for something they have already done.

Ive not fully read the article but it doesn’t seem like they’re saying get the jab or else. So it’s not a bribe.

It sounds more like an incentive. Much like if you buy an electric vehicle the government will give you a tax break.
