Core App: Better payments

I’m aware. But PayPoint doesn’t handle withdrawals as well now, does it?

I remember them talking about a pilot with some banks a while ago, but not sure what happened to that

What’s wrong with ATMs though? In the UK they’re generally free, whereas in Europe there’s more of a widespread fee structure, hence CASH26.

Sounds like they could talk to Paysafe who do the same sort of thing across Europe. Their Paysafecash system is what Monese use outside of the UK for cash deposits. I guess with Paypoint being so dominant in the uk with what they do it is perhaps more risky for Paysafe to launch in a substantial way in the uk, but if they had a big partner like Monzo already on board it may be more viable for them to then go try get supermarkets on board.

Nothing! I just said something like CASH26 would be neat

Looks great.

However, I think it would be better to have the account description (if one is given) at the top of a bank account instead of the bank name (and then have the bank name below) because I think that’s what people wnat to know when they’re looking for a specific bank account. Also, the bank info is already noticeable because the bank’s logo is on the right.

Proposed change:

If account description given:

Account description

Bank name
Sort code * Account number
Default reference (if given)

If account description not given:

Bank name

Sort code * Account number
Default reference (if given)

Apologies if this has been mentioned upthread, but is this new - specifically the ability to add an account description?

Feels like it might be? The add button on the bottom is partially obscured - you can’t scroll down further to reveal it all:

(You can see that I’ve used the feature to add manually add my Dozens account so it says Dozens rather than Project Imagine, which owns Dozens but isn’t the consumer brand):

Could be the ‘Edit Payee…’ ID additions in v3.62.0?

But going in the right direction regardless.

Is this for iOS too? Hope so…

Hi all, I wanted to share an update with you. We’ve just put the screens shared by @kavi above into Monzo Labs! There should be two toggles to enable:

  • Re-designed “add payee” screens
  • Re-designed Payee profile

This is available on both clients now (latest Android store build, and latest iOS TestFlight build). Please let us know your feedback!

What you can expect from these:

  • A new edit mode: Ability to edit a payee’s display name, separate from their payment (legal) name
  • Ability to edit bank account details without deleting & re-creating it
  • A “default reference” feature , so all payments will use that reference by default
  • You can now create more than one payee with the same account details, separated by their reference
  • Lots of visual improvements and tweaks to the payee profile pages, for consistency with the rest of the app

There are a couple of known issues I’d like to highlight, which will be fixed soon:

  • iOS: sometimes gets stuck on a spinner when editing the name of a payee. Tapping back will reveal that the edit was successful
  • iOS: The payee initials don’t update in real-time when you type a completely new name.

This is nice!

My feedback so far… We still can’t edit anything or delete Payees who use Monzo that were added through payment with friends.

I’m editing my Freetrade payee. This has only ever had a single reference, I’ve never sent money to that account without, that I can see.

When I edit the account it doesn’t know that I’ve used a reference in the past, and doesn’t seem to offer that as a pre-defined value to select. Ideally it should offer me the opportunity to select previously-used values…?

Amazing - thanks Robin.

All looking good. A few immediate bits of feedback:

  • I’ve merged a payee, but I can still see the old payee on the list. It errors when I try and merge again.
  • Although it’s specified, it’s v confusing knowing up front which will be the master contact when merging. An option to pick one might be much easier?
  • The ‘Add Payee’ option is a bit lost - took me a couple of minutes looking to find it
  • It seemed counter-intutitive that I had to name the contact after I’d set up the payee information. It felt (to me at least) that you should set up the contact, then add account details to it.
  • It’d be great to be able to duplicate a payee and just tweak the reference field. Right now you have to re-enter everything, which feels a bit labourious.
  • Under a payee, the accounts seem to be listed in reverse chronological order (so if I edit one, it goes to the bottom). Alphabetical would be much better, I think.

(I’m in Android 10, latest - beta - version of Monzo, if that helps).

Keep up the good work - and merry festiving!

Are we able to merge payees on iOS yet?

I think you should be able to if you enable these options in Labs, now.

Edit: my bad. I don’t think you can yet. :pensive:

When choosing an existing payee, the edit button / text is inconsistent with the edit button (a pencil) which appears on your profile page.

When you press save after editing a payees bank account, you drop back to the payee page , rather than remaining on the payee edit page. A pain if you wish to amend more than one associated bank account.

One of my payees, with multiple accounts is me … yet I am still asked to invite myself to join Monzo… any way around this?

Bank accounts in name order would be nice…

This is a huge improvement over what we had previously.

My immediate feedback is:

  • Completely agree with @Peter_G’s points about bank accounts being sorted into alphabetical order and about naming the payee before the bank account.

  • I’ve noticed a potential bug. If you do the following: select a contact ==> tap “EDIT” ==> change the name of the payee ==> tap “EDIT” to edit one of the payee’s bank accounts ==> edit that bank account and tap “SAVE” or just go back, then the name of the payee reverts back to the name before you changed it.

  • A 2nd potential bug. Editing the name of a payee sometimes changes the"Full name" for the bank accounts. (Potentially, this happens if you haven’t edited the bank account first or if the “Account type” hasn’t been selected for that bank account).

  • I would be great to be able to merge payees with Monzo accounts from phone contacts that you haven’t paid yet.

(Android 10, app version 3.62.0)

All of the above  feedback points are good, plus:

  • When in the contact EDIT mode, the ability to change the contact icon image - this would be huge

All looks great, but a couple of minor observations

  1. After saving an edit (under Android anyway) it takes you back to the main screen for the payee rather than the Edit screen. I had expected the latter personally and had to go around the circle a few times

  2. I also notice that several of my payees had not yet selected Personal or Business so the Save button was greyed out when I edited the name. I might be good to highlight that neither of the radio buttons was selected as I briefly could not work out why it was greyed out. I note that a more recent payee did have that saved

Finally :raised_hands:t4: First I must say this is a huge improvement already so well done team! I can finally tidy up them contacts and not pay off the wrong credit card…

Apologies if I repeat some others feedback…

  • Can we add other bank accounts to monzo contacts in one payee? I have a few people on the payee list who are now doubled up. And be able to merge them (iOS)

  • Please can you get rid of either/ both “recent” and “frequent”. Really don’t understand why you need 3 lists of payees. I can deal with frequent, but recent, just because I payed Bob yesterday doesn’t mean he’s going to be the next person I pay.

  • Be able to click on a payee and see the list of their transaction, in or out, just like any merchant currently.

Minor points

  • Is it possible for joint account payees to be synced across the joint account? So if I add or delete a payee, it reflects in my partners list?

  • Remove the contact tile with initials, or give us the option to add a photo.

  • See a monzo contacts joint account, not just their personal account

Apart from the above, everything else is tickety boo. And very much welcomed. But please don’t half bake this update :pray:t4::pray:t4::pray:t4::pray:t4:

Another bit of feedback from me:

If you have a saved contact with a Monzo account, but who doesn’t have Monzo With Friends turned on, you still get the Invite/Request banner up top - as if it wasn’t a Monzo account.
