Thanks for explaining in more detail. I do understand your use-case better now! I agree that references currently leave a lot to be desired – we do have some plans to improve them by letting you remove unwanted references (& making that list work better in general), but no timeline on this for now. The good news is that it’s not a lot of work thanks to the underlying improvements we’ve been making to Payees; we just need to figure out a UI for it.
I may of misinterpreted but i read as separate accounts under one payee, not separate payees.
For example @Peter_G could click on his payee he has for himself and see 10 of the same account with different references. Adding a duplicate account button would mean he wouldn’t have to repeatedly add all the account details, he’d just have to duplicate and change the reference.
Is that right Peter?
I’d love the banking system to catch up with the unicode times and allow references with etc.
I’d settle just for more than 13 characters, or whatever the ridiculously short limit is
Is there a way to associate my other accounts with me, I can associate other peoples accounts with there Monzo account now, but I don’t seem to have the same ability with my own Monzo account.
Hi all, I wanted to update you that we’ve just released the “Payees hub” to Monzo Labs! It’s available for iOS and Android on builds 3.66 onwards; you’ll see it when you go to the Payments tab and tap “Payees”, and also when going to the Pay / Request flows. (Note: you may need to restart the app after enabling it).
Keen to hear your feedback!
Ooh - Reference AND Description fields. Nice
Also super quick to add a new payee (Create payee)
Will mess around further
The design is lovely. Feels very cohesive with the rest of the app.
Def excited to see the favourites option appear when it does.
Edit: also just huge kudos to the pace of development we’re now seeing with the payments tab. Really so nice to see all these issues finally being fixed
Honestly, I think this is even more cluttered.
I might be jumping the gun here as it’s not fully implemented but on the “payments” tab you have “frequents” and “recent”. Then you have to click the “payees” button to see “all”.
Once you click that, you have “frequent” “recent” and “all” (leaving out monzo contacts).
So it’s doubling up on “frequent” and “recent”. Just seems like a new UI, no new features. Unless I’m missing something…
@Chris7 The payees hub is largely a visual update, yes. Our goals are to:
- Move the list of all payees & contacts away from the home screen. A lot of people didn’t like seeing people they may never pay (and old contacts they no longer care about) right on the home screen
- Create a new space to see and manage all your payees; now that we have this space, it is much easier to add new payee management / creation features in the future without cluttering the payments home screen even more. We have a bunch of these planned, especially for business accounts.
- Update the design of the pay / request flows
and finally, we’ve done a bunch of small tweaks that should become more noticeable as you use these flows more. Some examples are showing more information to identify payees when the name is not enough, and making Monzo-to-monzo vs external bank transfers clearer when paying someone who has both.
I see what you mean here and hadn’t considered the double-up.
There’s no need for the new Payee details to be behind the ‘Payees’ tap at all.
In fact, it could all be done in a single payments screen which starts with the important elements at the top (Pay/Request/etc.) and flows as you scroll down to the lesser required elements (all contacts, etc.)
I’ve done a quick mock-up of the ideal (the world according to me… ignore the Golden ticket/Invite friends element - that should be moved to the Account Overview display):
Is it just me, or does this simply not work on iOS.
I turned it on in labs, and nothing changed. The entire payments tab, the flows, everything is exactly the same as before.
Did you force close the app and restart ?
Works fine for me on ios
Thank you!
Hadn’t actually tried that.
Works now. I like the new look. Matches the plus design language better, and I hope it becomes a systemwide UI sooner than later.
Ive enabled the new payees hub, and it seems to work fine after restarting the app.
One thing doesn’t work, though. The notification leads to a screen where I’m asked to tap for more info. Tapping the screen doesn’t work.
That’s kind of what I was getting at, the new page would fit better in the payments tab.
Wouldn’t that lead to a massive wasted space on the payments tab? You would have pay, request, move money, and the button for payee hub… That wouldn’t even fill half the screen (on an iPhone XS that is).
The new payee hub UI does look a lot fresher by the way. I just don’t quite see how it currently fits into the app right now. I guess time, or a few sneak peaks will till
@Chris7 we’re going to keep Favourites (coming soon!) and “Recent” on the home screen for quick access. The one thing that’s going away is “ALL” which a lot of us think is clutter, and the “Add payee” button which was always oddly placed. And over time the payees hub will hopefully gain more functionality that we couldn’t fit onto the home tab. Maybe things will make a bit more sense once we roll the rest of the changes out too!
The new Payees hub definitely makes the Payments tab look less cluttered !
Here are a few other thoughts:
- I’m still getting this bug:
-
Since “Pay someone nearby” has been moved to the “Pay” screen, I think it makes sense to remove the link to “Pay someone nearby” that’s in the top right of the Payments tab.
-
For the same reasons given in the previous thought, it might make sense to remove the search icon in the top right of the Payments tab.
-
I still find the “Make a bank transfer” option in the Pay screen confusing. If I want to make a bank transfer to someone who I already have the details for I’d go `Payments tab ==> Pay ==> Make a bank transfer (because that’s what I want to do) ==> “damn, now I have to go back”'. Not sure what’s the best way of sorting this though.
-
Related to the previous point: it would be great if going `Payments tab ==> SCHEDULED ==> + icon’ took you to a screen where it was possible to select one of your payees (as well as the option to input the details of someone new) to set the scheduled payments up with.
-
I think I agree with @Chris7’s point about Recent and Frequent being doubled up by including them in the Pay and Request tabs too. Unless they are curated differently in the Pay screen vs Request screen vs Payments tab in the future. EDIT: just noticed that Frequent and Recent are also in the PAYEES screen, so they’re tripled up. Overall, I think it would be best to jsut include them on the main Payments tab screen (along with the upcoming Favourites section) and remove them from everywhere else.
-
Please either have Frequent and Recent both as vertical lists or both as horizontal lists !
-
The text telling you if you need to share a link or can request via Monzo on the Request screen is really great.
Will the Main Payees tab be changed to match the visual style of the new stuff you’ve done?
Also, the search bar says ‘Search Contacts’ Can this be changed to ‘Search Payees’ to match the search bar on the new screen you get redirected too?
The add button currently gets you to add add a new contact which is strange anyway but now even stranger, is this what’s being removed?
Great to hear. I think this will come together when the main tab changes (assuming that’s on the cards).
One thing that I think might be a bug: since this work has rolled out, I no longer have the option of selecting previous references when tapping. Is this by design? Do you have plans in this area?
