Confirmation of Payee not fully rolled out

Maybe it’s my manflu kicking in, but this doesn’t read correctly, pretty sure you can actually just bypass that warning once it appears and carry on anyways.

Last year the industry launched confirmation of payee (CoP), a new check that meant anyone trying to transfer money into an account could only do so if they had the holder’s correct name.

Yes you can always bypass the warning but the issue is that this shifts at least some fraud liability to the customer.

Banks can refuse to refund a scam by saying that the customer was grossly negligent in ignoring the warning that the check didn’t match.

Of course, with the teething problems of the system, you fairly often get no match even when it is the right account so the worry is that this is training customers to ignore the warnings. Some banks also fail to do partial matches properly which makes this worse.
