Collected Thoughts on Card Design (Part 2)

I remember someone else posting a similar Amex card back in the Part 1 thread. Seems like this charge card has been a thing for a while and likely to stay around for a while.

At least it’s not embossed anymore.

I like the idea of the design but it could have been done better.

I absolutely won’t, as I don’t hold the card

Genuine question: How can you manage with so many cards in your wallet? Does it not take for ever to find the right one in a store? Are there really transactions month by month that you put on each of these cards?

Genuinely curious.

For others: What are your views on the maximum number of cards that is ‘manageable’ in Apple Wallet?

If I don’t use it regularly it gets the chop.

Personal debit, personal credit
Joint debit, “joint” credit

Nectar card, Lidl Plus

is the physical design like that as well? :eyes:

is it true that card has no interest whatsoever?

My Apple Wallet has 3 cards (main debit, main credit, spare account debit), along with Tesco/Nectar cards. I then have a MagSafe wallet attached to my phone with my ID and 1 physical debit card in.

I wouldn’t keep more than 3 cards linked to Apple Wallet, even then I could probably remove my credit card as I don’t use it much these days.

No interest because it’s a charge card not a credit card. You have to clear the full balance each month.

I for one am somebody who prefers charge cards and still have a few I’m hanging on to.

I prefer the flexibility they can bring for my needs.

Does anyone remember the old Carte Blanche or Diners adverts?

My boyfriend has UBS. But not like their Private Banking or anything just the Standard Prepaid One as he is originally Swiss.

I’m honestly curious about this - what flexibility do you get that you don’t get with a credit card? Surely a high limit credit card has more flexibility as you don’t need to pay it off each month if you didn’t want to?

Credit cards don’t give as high limits as people often think. The majority of larger card borrowing comes from charge cards which if you can prove you have the means to settle the balance with liquid cash then they’ll increase your limit accordingly.

Your unable to do that with a credit card, as they’re a fixed pre determined amount.

Plus like you say if you don’t pay it off you don’t need to, you just get charged the interest whatever rate someone may have.

As ambitious as though suggestions are, I’ve only ever purchased my car on a charge card and some jewellery items.

I (sort of) get it.

But.

If you have the means to settle it… why do you need the charge card?

I presume it’s for people who can afford to pay in full, but not immediately. They might have money coming in at the end of the month, or they might have to transfer funds from their savings first, etc.
