Just wanted to flag here that I followed exactly the instructions above - big letters main address, small letters with a title return address, account number on the back… but the cheque was returned to my home address. I even had to pay £2 as it had no stamp
I really hope Monzo pushes the adoption of imaging technology soon as this has been a pain. Unfortunately even in 2019, I’ve had to use a cheque twice.
For those of you that are in any kind of rush - don’t use the service, go to a normal bank.
I really wish it worked 100% of the time but clearly, not only from my case, it doesn’t. I don’t think anybody for whom the money is urgent would choose this method anyway but regardless, worth a reminder not to do it.
Will the payout be by cheque or bank transfer. (If cheque i’ll send it recorded)
Car tax refund will be cheque i’m guessing too but that will be >£100 so freepost unless it comes at the same time
I imagine it would depend on your insurance company.
Nope you have a choice.
When you get the letter stating how much you’re owed, if you do nothing they’ll issue a cheque after 4 weeks (not sure on the exact timeframe) but if you look on the reverse it gives you information on how you can claim it online and have it sent via bank transfer within 2-3 working days
If you have created a “Personal Tax Account” on the HMRC website (which you can have even if you don’t have to self assess, you can have one just to see what your income tax & lifetime NI contributions are, along with a state pension forecast), then you will probably get the option to do a BACS payment.
Sending someone an email asking them to log on somewhere and put their bank details in is considered a pretty obvious type of scam, so in the absence of an existing online account, it will always be done via a cheque through the post.
