Enough people to send 346 million of them in 2018, not seen last year’s figures yet and I’ve not looked at any breakdowns as I really need to put my phone down an go to sleep, well try anyways
imagine cashing a 10p check
Some people still get paid by check
Which is continually declining. The more people that stop supporting and using them the quicker we can get rid of them entirely and the world will be a better place as a result
With respect your opinion sounds like
“I don’t use it so why should anyone else”
You have to concede millions of cheques are used in the UK, at present Monzo do not support cheques that many would consider acceptable or safe.
If Monzo want to support more customers or increase business banking they need to support cheques better than they do now - surely even on the business side you can see that?
I also can’t remember the last time I got a cheque but if I did I will use Starling to deposit despite being “full monzo” which to me doesn’t exist as no one can be full monzo if they need to deposit over 1000 in cash or pay in a cheque occasionally. To go off-topic that is the current issue with Monzo you need another account currently as a just in case - with Starling you could argue you do not.
Why are you so vehemently negative about the prospect of and against this feature? (genuinely interested)
You’re the top poster on the thread, so clearly passionately against it!
I’m only the top poster because people keep replying to me and I have to keep repeating myself
I have no interest either way but when people keep saying “I need it for HMRC” etc it’s good to let them know it’s no longer necessary. Hopefully it makes their lives a little easier while they wait for this feature
Happy Cakeday!
Oh yeah! Thank you
I’ll leave some in the canteen for everyone to grab a slice.
That’s around 5 cheques per person. Up until this year, someone else was definitely getting my share.
That’s still crazy numbers really.
I can’t see them going anywhere, I’ve also received more them since banks dropped clearing times from 5 working days to 1. They’re not as much as hassle anymore because of that either
I note Starling say they now process more than 30,000 cheques per month via in-app cheque imaging.
An impressive figure and it’s despite them having a lot fewer customers than Monzo do.
Meanwhile, Monzo still don’t seem to recognise the considerable demand for this service.
They do get sent out for less than that amount. I posted earlier in this thread this picture when I got it a few years back . I can’t actually remember if I ever bothered to cash it.
Oh I know😅 probably costs more printing and sending it - once British Gas send me one for 1p and think I kept forgetting about it😂 so it’s like 7 years out of date
Ask for a replacement
Your post was the first on this thread for three weeks, so I am not sure how we can judge demand for it either way really
I see more calls for dark mode around personally
Maybe the recent changes to connect direct to BACS ease the way a little, but we shall see
We had someone the other day who wouldn’t go “full Monzo” as they didn’t want their presented name in the usual format so I have somewhat given up on trying to gauge what is make or break for everybody! I think we can only go by a median, a bit like deciding what represent “normal” is
I agree. And it’s for these reasons why I am considering switching to Starling. It pains me to say it; however, I don’t see much innovation in Monzo any more.
There have been other threads that have referred to the lack of cheque imaging in the meantime on the forum
As for measuring latent demand, that is why the volumes of cheques going through other banks apps gives a idea of potential demand
I’ve missed this. Could you provide more details and why it might impact on this issue?
In that post above, which I re-read yesterday, I was struck by the number of mentions of check clearing in Erin’s introduction
I am not jumping to conclusions, or thinking that anything will definitely happen, but it just struck me that there may be some payoffs we do not see yet and that becoming an (in)direct participant in BACS for other reasons may pipe clean for later participation
